M&P Shield Rear Sight Removal

Postby emcd4 on Mon May 27, 2013 2:22 pm

Have installed the Apex Duty Carry Trigger kit except for the striker block and spring.
Have not been able to remove the rear sight. After several attempts of trying to punch it out, I took it to a local gunsmith and he tried with a sight removal tool and was unable to budge it. He then tried an arbor press and still couldn't get it to budge. He says the only alternative is to mill it out and replace with a new rear sight.
Has anybody else experienced this difficulty and found a better solution?

Send your slide to: http://www.xd-hs2000.com/ if you can't find something local.

They replaced my stock shield sights. I was quoted $70 locally and didn't trust they could actually do it. Got the recommendation from MNGunGuy and couldn't be happier with my Trijicon HDs from XD-HS2000.

One of the smiths at bills replaced my stock sights with trijicon night sights on my shield, he said he had to take a punch to the left side of the original sight and pound the crap out of it to get it to budge. A sight pusher wont work, I'd take it to bills if you can't move it.

Weird, I was able to remove mine with my sight pusher. It did take quite a bit of elbow grease to finally get it to pop though. My Dads fullsize M&P popped off without a hitch.

Same here. I need to finish my Apex kit too, but I can't get the sight off. Looking for help myself. Looking to at least try a pusher.

You've got to hold it TIGHT in a good solid vice and hit it hard with a punch.
