purse gun - kahr cw or springfield xds

Postby gun_fan111 on Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:49 pm

What do you think is better - kahr cw or Springfield xds? Kahr seems more proven out and more reasonably priced, while xds does have a lighter trigger. Anybody out there owns both and has some insights?
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Mrs. C. Has a CW9 that I like. Big enough to shoot easily and slim enough to carry easily. The trigger isn't the lightest but we don't want a light trigger for this application. I can bring it to the steel shoot if you want to try it. I have not shot an XDS so I cannot give a comparison.

The XDs or a Smith&Wesson M&P Shield are a couple great choices. The Kahr is OK but not as ergonomic or reliable.

It would be a good idea to try a few at Bills before you choose the gun, only by shooting each one will you know which feels best and shoots best for you.

Thanks for the offer! I own a CM9 and always assumed the trigger will be the same on a CW. This one will be for the wify, and I was looking for something with a longer grip easier to control.

Thanks gman, I forgot about the Shield since those are in the stores so often - not :) . Looks like it has a longer grip as well so I will need to check it out.

I carry a Shield and my wife rocks an XDs. I really like both of those two options but find myself wanting an XDs of my own. It shoots very well, is just as concealable, and yes, it is a .45ACP. Take that for whatever it may be worth. Maybe I just don't like the thought of my wife carrying a bigger gun than me...anybody know where I can get a 10mm CCO? ;)

I've seen more issues with Kahr's than any other pistol mfg....by a long shot. They still haven't figured out to make a quality magazine that doesn't nose dive the top round either. PITA to detail strip, etc. That being said, I really like the smooth DAO trigger and I shot Kahr's very well. I've seen more than a couple that had issues though...so it soured me on the brand. I've never shot a higher end one, just the CW series pistols and one of the P380's, so my experience is limited.

There's more and more shields popping up available. Even on gunbroker they're not selling for much more than MSRP. There's one for sale on this forum even: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=44458

He's got it priced $100 above retail, but based on the higher than MSRP prices on all that users listings, I suspect he's just listing them to appease the boss (wife), not because he wants them sold. I know the feeling :D

purse gun - kahr cw or springfield xds

Postby solidgun on Sun Dec 01, 2013 5:58 pm

Between the two strictly for purse, I am going to vote XDs. I like kahrs, but it rotates when thrown into a pouch like space and XDs being top heavy rotates to top down as it bounces.

I would recommend trigger guard holster for either one.

I haven't ever had a CM9, but I carried a PM9 for a number of years and carry a Shield now. Out of your two choices I would say the CW9, if you are open to other options I would look at the Sheild. They seem to be in stock at most stores now and priced much more reasonably than when I purchased.

I am not a fan of the XDs grip safety, although it is less of an issue with the XDs than the XD/XDM. In any case, if she is drawing from a purse and gets a less than ideal grip you will want a gun that will still fire, this is not always the case with an XDs/XD/XDM.

This. Or a dedicated pocket in the purse that always presents the gun in a way that makes it easy to grab in a hurry (I've seen guns drawn in training from a purse/bag with the holster still attached).

Has your wife shot any of these yet? My wife shot a friend's Kahr with me a few months ago and didn't like the snappy-ness of it. Much preferred the grip angle on the XDs. However, she actually has issues racking the slide on my .45 XDs. She hasn't tried the 9mm yet, but when I was borrowing a friend's Shield (thanks Dan!) she had a much easier time with that.
