How do you disassemble a Mark III?

Postby LarryFlew on Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:15 am

From reading the manual I get the knife blade type lock open. Assuming the button behind the rear sight is the next step. Manual says with a new gun you may need to tap this with a hammer and a dowel. BS even wrapping it with a flat metal punch doesn't budge it. Am I doing something wrong or are they this hard to take apart? Thanks.

Get a bigger hammer. If that doesn't work..... blowtorch.

The first few times you disassemble it are going to be the toughest, I've had ones that came apart easily from the beginning and others that are still difficult to take down after ten times of doing it. Getting the thing back together is always the tricky part for me.

It is way easier than assembling one.

I wanted a Ruger....got scared after watching my uncle "disassemble" his and got a Buckmark. Still like the Rugers, I just like to clean and tinker too much to deal with the take down. Nice pistols though....

Look on youtube. The difficult part is making sure the barrel in in the correct position before locking the grip dealie.

Jumping ahead on you maybe but getting rid of the magazine disconnect is a worthwhile mod. I struggled with the MF thing. A lot. Now I have it figured out. But I had a big time Valium fit the first time I tried to reassemble it.

I made a Youtube vid of it...

I bought a rubber dead-blow hammer with the lead shot in it just to get my MKIII apart. Even after 1.5 years it still needs to be smacked with the hammer to get the barrel and receiver off of the grip.

well, What I find most useful for for the mainspring latch is to use a paperclip. Stick the half circle of a paperclip under that mainspring and pull. After about 50 or so times; it will come undone with your fingernail.

For getting the barrel off; some good wacks with a rubber hammer. Don't worry - you wont hurt it. As time goes on; it will get easier.

For getting the mainspring back in again - this is where the magazine disconnect comes in handy. The hammer / hammer strut needs to be in one position to insert the mainspring; and in another position to seat the mainspring. The disconnect allows you to do this without inserting/removing magazines over and over again.

+1 on this.

Watching YouTube videos helped me, installing the bushing for the magazine disconnect helped me even more, but having someone show me helped me the 2nd-most.....what helped me the absolute most is me taking it down and reassembling it 20 times in a row.

A friend of mine has one and it's been apart less than 5 times. They tend to be a bit tight when new, so strip it down, reassemble, fire it, break that bad boy in.

Myself and some others on here are always willing to help you as well, I'm sure, but I can only really speak for myself.
