22 TCM-9mm 1911

Has anyone seen one of these around?
I would sure like to shoot one! Is there a preferred RIA dealer in the TC?

17 rounds of 22 TCM might be great for those who are recoil sensitive.

I picked up an RIA tactical 9mm 1911 a few weeks back, but not the convertible one. Did some research after I purchased and learned of the 22 TCM barrel. However, figured out that I can't simply buy the barrel and convert my gun. Apparently only the factory 22 TCM / 9mm guns are able to be converted, and Armscor won't sell the 22 TCM barrel separately for user fitting. The 9mm I picked up was too great of a deal to let it pass, so I would have bought this even had I known ahead of time about the 22 TCM option. Plan to keep my eye out for someone with a TCM though, as I'm still curious about why one can't convert a standard 9mm if I could get my hands on the barrel.

Good luck,
Mark

From what I've seen, the recoil spring is different too. As easy as it is to botch a barrel install, I'd guess they don't want end user installation. The other possibility is that they just don't have enough barrels to sell you one.

It's an interesting cartridge, but I'm not sure how useful it is.

One argument on the pro side is body armor blind for the TCM.

Other than that possibility it seems pretty light to me.

They're getting 40gr bullets to 2Kfps - I'd like to see a bullet that short and light make it through a decent vest with enough energy left to break tissue.

From what I understand, the 22 TCM is supposed to be the round to be compared against FN's 5.7x28mm. 22 Cal bullet obviously. MY dad bought his at the "General Store" (?) in Osakis and gets most of his ammo from Little Crown in Hutch. Its a fun little range gun that pretty accurate. Im not sure how big of a PITA is is to change over to 9 as we have never done it. Its only fired the 22 TCM rounds. Its a great paper puncher, but I cant see it being used for anything other than that.

Armscor is also making a rifle for this cartridge.. and it takes the same 17rd magazine as the pistol. Looks like it would make a good varmint gun

5.7 that was banned had steel core penetrator bullets. I suppose if you had some military pulls you could load your own.

A friend of mine has one. The conversion is barrel, recoil spring, and extractor. It's fun to shoot with the very low recoil and fast cycle times. I don't know that he has ever shot any critters with it. The .22TCM put a nice crater in my "pistol calibers only" steel gong. I'd think with home loadings with some of the more interesting bullets available and you could do wonderful things with that round.

As to where to actually get one, I really don't know.

'I've got one, one of the original ones with the 9mm conversion.

It's a hoot to shoot in .22--almost negligible recoil, but damn, does it have a muzzle blast and flash. The 7# recoil spring is really light-the first time I did a press check, I ejected the round.

As Bitter Bastard mentioned above, the conversion is an extractor (the 9mm one needed to be tuned), barrel, and recoil spring. As I understand it, the later conversion kits didn't include the extractor; I don't know, I ever tried the TCM extractor for 9mm.

Speaking of the conversion, It works great in 9mm as well, and to be honest, I mainly keep mine as a 9mm. About the only drawback is mine won't feed 147gr rounds reliably; 124 and 115, all day long.

Para mags work fine in it as well; you an get 20 rounds of TCM in an 18 round mag (23 rounds in an extended).

I think it's a fun gun, and for the price of the conversion, hard to beat.
