AR pistol

Postby codilly on Sun Oct 13, 2013 5:54 pm

So I am pretty much finished with my AR pistol I have been putting together. All I need to complete it is a rear sight and I already have it lined up to be dipped in Multicam when everything is done. I plan on eventually getting a stamp for it to make it a SBR

Lower is a Palmetto lower with Palmetto LPK, RRA pistol buffer tube, YHM ambi sling mount rear plate and a Magpul MOE grip.
Upper is a Palmetto 10.5", Spikes NiB BCG, BCM mod 3 charging handle, YHM low pro clamp on gas block, Samson Evolution 11" handgaurd and a Troy Claymore muzzle break.

Very nice job. I'm putting together parts for my first AR build (1st AR too), and I hope it comes out as nice.

Have you thought about running a gas piston such as AA kit? Seems this is where a GP design really shines, minimizing gas overpressure to the BCG.

Because they are real fun range toys? Or in my case, I built them for my wife and I to circumvent slug zone deer hunting laws in MN.

They also circumvent this stupid law:

No person may possess a firearm or ammunition outdoors during the
period beginning the fifth day before the open firearms season and ending
the second day after the close of the season within an area where deer may
be legally taken by firearms, except:
• A person who has a valid firearms big game license in possession may
hunt big game during the open season with a firearm and ammunition
authorized for big game.
• Possession is also legal under these conditions:
> An unloaded firearm that is cased or in a closed trunk of a motor
vehicle.
> A shotgun and shells containing No. 4 buckshot or smaller diameter
lead shot or nontoxic shot.
> A .22 caliber rimfire handgun or rifle with .22 caliber short, long, or
long rifle cartridges, .22 magnum or .17 caliber rimfire.
> Handguns possessed by a person with a carry permit.
> On a target range or under a target range permit issued by a conservation
officer.

That's tomorrow folks! ;)

It also allows those who are going to SBR a lower to legally own (and shoot) a short barreled upper while they wait for tax stamp approval from ATF.

This. Plus if you add the Sig SB15 you get nearly all of the benefits of a SBR with none of the drawbacks. Not the prettiest rear end, but functions great. If anyone wants to say it's stupid, some reasons why will be more persuasive.

Interesting  Are there any barrel length rules for a pistol? Can you have a 14 or 16" barrel on a pistol?

For the purposes of transporting them under your PTC, the overall length of the weapon must be less than 26 inches.

I shudder to think of the troopers response, permit or not, if I have to step out of the car with my 10.5" pistol hanging under a long duster. Sometimes you can be legal and dumb at the same time.

I spoke with BATFE a couple weeks ago. Processing times for NFA weapons are currently around 15 months. Yeah....

I would actually like to have an uncased condition 1 AR pistol mounted to the underside of my decklid (trunk) with a hidden button release like police cruisers have for their long guns.
