New Glock

Postby tenmilmag on Sun Oct 27, 2013 10:26 pm

Hello good people. I am contemplating my first Glock. My desire is for the 10mm. So, I am wondering... Get the Gen 4 or wait for Gen 5? Is it even in the works, yet?

From my handling of both a G-17 (9mm) in Gen 3 and Gen 4 I liked the feel of the 3 more. Although, I have not fired a Gen 4 yet. I also own a Gen 3 G-30 and love the feel of it. The Gen4 I held at Gander just didn't feel as comfortable in my hand. Of course, every gun feels different to each of us.

Gen 4 or gen 3sf. I like the beaver tail back straps on the gen 4 but on the glock 20 I would not add a back strap any way. 3 mags is nice though. RTF doesn't count.

I haven't heard anything about a Gen 5 Glock.

I think the Gen 4 will treat you well. If they do come out with a new generation Glocks have great resale value!

I just bought a Gen 3 G20, I love it. I looked at the gen 4 it's not that much different, and the gen 3 size is slightly larger which is what I like. The Gen 4 seems less robust, to me, why I don't know.

New Glock

Not a glock expert, but the first glock came out in 1982. But if the gen denotes major revisions, it will most likely be quite awhile before the gen5 hits the streets. Personally think it was the popularity of replaceable backs traps that hastened the gen4's to market.

Make this website your friend. http://www.doubletapammo.net/index.php? ... th=303_301 Otherwise most factory 10mm isn't any much more powerful than 40SW.

Gen 3 ran over 10 years I wouldn't expect anything new for quite a while.

There seems to be plenty of 9mm here.

10mm has always been a reloaders caliber. Factory ammo is expensive and weak, for the most part.

Dude!! You need to read up some on the history of 10mm's, and the ammo that goes with them. 10mm is a cult caliber, and a pretty potent one, to the point that the recoil of the Smith 1076 was too painful for some Federal agents, and thus was born the 40 Short & Weak. So yeah, the recoil can be too much for some people.

2nd is that the cheap ammo is watered down crap, driving a 180 grain bullet at 1035 FPS, when the S&W 40 drives it at 980 FPS. Whooppee EFFEN do!! The factory spec for full power ammo is a 200 grain bullet going 1200 FPS. :( :o  :? This is an ideal cartridge to handload, from the sense that good ammo is very expensive and the cheap stuff isn't found on most store shelves. Unfortunately, the 10mm is also a caliber where you can screw up big time if your not careful with your reloads, and at your current level of knowledge you are at least TWO reloading manual's worth of reading away from having enough knowledge just to START not being dangerous.

You do NOT just idly decide to pick up a 10mm and merrily start shooting it, any more than a 454 Casull or some other potent calibers. Go rent one from Bill's and see what it's like before you spend any more time assuming you can just pick one up and go with it.
