Shot my first 1911 ... NICE!!!!

Postby Blutarski on Sun Nov 17, 2013 2:56 pm

I am pretty new to handguns but it doesn't take much reading before you realize that the 1911 has a huge fan base. A few days ago I ran into a friend at the range and he pulls out his Springfield 1911. I commented that it was a nice looking gun. He asked if I wanted to shoot it? ... HELL YEAH!!!!

I squeezed off about five rounds and couldn't believe how nice this gun was. I must have been grinning like little Ralphie when he opened his Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time.

Now I need to start saving my pennies for my next purchase. Maybe Santa will think I have been a good boy this year.

I have good new and bad news. The bad news is there is no cure for the 1911 bug, the good news is each time you buy a new 1911 the syptoms subside for awhile. So the only thing yoiu can do is just keep buying them, it keeps the pain at a tolerable level. Just a hint the bug is price senstive the more you send the better you will feel.

That's how it all begins. 1911's are like crack.
The only thing that you can tell yourself is that you are simply saving your money in the safe and not the bank.
My current strategy after falling off of the wagon is to have a couple on order. It actually worked for about three months.

If you are in the market for a 1911, don't overlook the Ruger SR 1911. They are priced above the imports but less than the Springfield, Smith& Wesson and Kimber. My son has one and it is very nice.

Blutarski, your virus cannot be that serious if you are considering waiting till Christmas :)

If you are new to handguns and are lucky to find .22 ammo, you could start with Ruger 22/45. Their Lite version is pretty sweet!
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Alas - the kids' tuition bills must come first. Once that is done, then I will see an increase in my firearm budget :)

I second this recomendation! Don't know if it's a misprint or not, but the Gander Mountain ad in this Sunday's paper (11-17-13) had the Ruger Commander sized SR1911 on sale for $499.99!!!! The MSRP on the Ruger website is $829.00. Dang! The Remington R1 was right next to it on sale for $699.99. I'd be snapping up that Ruger before the Remingtom......if I had an extra $500 laying around.
Get off my lawn!

I seen that too for 499. Has to be a misprint. I have the SR1911 and love it! It has a sweet trigger and is very accurate with my reloads.

I saw the ad, too. I also noticed the picture shows the full size, not the commander. Regardless, I plan on stopping there after work today. If it's not a misprint, I'll be coming home with one (assuming they have any left).

Gander has the SR1911 listed as a "Double Action" pistol. Damn. ;)

If I didn't already have a tricked out R1, I would consider a hell cheap 1911.

Well I hope you get one for that price! That's a sweet deal! I think I paid 600 for my 5".

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Just went to the Rochester GM. There's a sign on the counter stating the advertised sale price was an error and the correct sale price is $749.99.
