Happy Valentine's Day...

Postby Rodentman on Fri Feb 14, 2014 7:29 pm

I bought this GI Model 4 for The Rodentwoman but she didn't want it. I guess I'll have to keep it myself. She can borrow it if she wishes.

And with mammoth grips...

I'll be airing it out a BPR tomorrow. The 2 piece guide rod is a PIA, IMHO especially with the strong spring.

Thanks to Grgkng at Tractus for a smooth deal and great communication. Great guy to buy from!

But that 2 piece guide rod....takes a lot of muscle and care to install.

The guide rod...is this correct:

There is no bushing so no way to remove spring pressure. Don't undo the two part guide rod first. Pull slide back against spring pressure and remove slide stop. Remove slide. Then undo two piece guide rod, hold onto spring, remove spring and barrel. Seems like it should not be that hard.

Well raise my rent! I'm slower than the Continental Drift. Here's a video of how to deal with a bull barrel and a two piece guide rod.
But I bet my spring is stiffer than the one shown here:

Well the gun ran pretty well at the range except after a few mags it wouldn't strip the top round from the mag into the chamber. Maybe the mag spring was too tight. I could barely thumb 5 rounds into the beast.

But I did improve my technique on the re-assembly. Hard on the poor thumb, holding that spring back, but it can be done.
