Just bought my first 1911

Postby Citiot on Sun Mar 09, 2014 9:14 pm

I bought my first 1911 this weekend. Ruger SR1911. I was curious of all the hype and can kind of see why. Much more complicated to take apart and put together than my Glock. But, the Glock is so utilitarian and, well... ugly.

Actually, it is fun to have to have it be a little complicated (and have to worry about getting an idiot scratch..... been putting scotch tape temporarily on it when putting slide stop in).

I put about 100 rounds through it. To me, it is much more accurate than my Glock. No problems to report with the Ruger.

Might get a Colt so I can have "the original" as opposed to a copy.

Congrats! I never understood people with multiple Glocks of the same model, but 1911s is a different story :)
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Huh? I have two of the same model gun that I use for EDC (not a glock or 1911). The reasoning shouldn't need an explanation. If one goes down, for any reason, I can stay consistent with the same exact platform I've trained with for 20 years.

Congratulations! The Ruger SR1911 is an excellent gun! I have one myself and it's been flawless so far.

Congrats Again.
Its a great gun and yes, its a bit more involved to take apart at first but gets easier. I have about 2000 rounds through mine and never had a issue.
Enjoy.

Congrats on your first 1911.

The good news is welcome to the club, now you know what we all have been talking about.

The bad news the infection has begun, now you need one in 9, 40, 38 super, ect..., long slide, compact, commander.....

Just an FYI, there is no real cure but buying more 1911's does ease the pain.

Another +1 for the Ruger CMD. Love mine so far, and it's even better with the correct safety (LH). The stainless frame and slide and the wood grips and black hardware just spoke to me...

Congrats on your new gun. Ruger makes a good, solid gun. We have 4 of them in our family and no issues.

Congrats on a great first 1911.

There is a simple modification that you can do to the slide stop to help avoid the idiot scratch.
It's talked about here. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=214653
There are a lot of good you tube videos on assy and dis-assembly

If you're looking for a series 70 Colt in nice condition I happen to have one listed in the classifieds that I wish
someone would buy before I change my mind.

Congrats again!

Here's a pic of a modified ss pin. It takes about a minute to do with a small file but saves a lot of aggravation.
