Ruger GP100 6" barrel .357 magnum.

Postby PHATSPEED7x on Mon Apr 21, 2014 6:07 pm

Who here has experience with the GP100? I have a guy who wants to do a gun deal with me, and brought one to the table with two speed loaders, and 215 rounds of .357 magnum. He wants to trade all that for my Shield 9mm. He's looking for a carry pistol, and said this thing is a little hard to conceal. I wouldn't mind hooking into a fullsize 357 again since I don't currently have one, and I got a few options for carry.

Good deal?

It sounds like too good of a deal.

Excellent gun.
But do a careful inspection.

Like said, almost too good of a deal.

I really like mine, and my daughter likes hers.

He's going to get me some more pics. But from the looks of things it looks nice.

I love my 3" GP100. I've had it seven years.

A 6" model could be a great range fun gun, home defense weapon, or even a deer hunting gun. If you google "revolver checkout", you'll find vastly detailed advice on what to look at.

Lots of people think those Hogue rubber grips are ugly; personally I think they look fine, and they're great for shooting the flaming max-power fun loads in comfort. Even with pretty wood grips, the weight of a 6" GP100 makes it pretty comfortable to shoot with magnum loads.

My GP100 is the 6" heavy Stainless model like shown.
I normally use Hornady 140 grain XTP's loaded over a near max load of WIN296.
But for deer hunting, I used the Hornady 180 grain XTP's loaded over a at max load of WIM296.
During late Fall early Winter the deer's hide can be crusted with snow, so I prefer a heavier projectile to ensure entry into the chest cavity, then the XTP does its work nicely.

The grip looks ugly but works very well.
I've tuned mine to a very smooth double action trigger pull, and a very crisp single-action pull (squeeze).

Not a carry gun, but a very effective handgun for all other purposes here in MidWest.

Trade for it - you will like it!!!

Thanks for the feed back guys. I was pretty sure this was a no brainer trade. The guy is looking for a summer carry gun. The shield would fit his needs much better than this big revolver. And I miss having a fullsize 357. The Rossi, and two Taurus revolvers I owned were fun. And I'm sure this one won't disappoint...

I'm working out the details for the deal right now.

That is a good trade, you will make out on this one. I own a GP100 and it's a very nice revolver. Those things are built pretty heavy duty, but check it out anyways..

Enjoy

I have one and love it, it seems like no matter what I put through it its very accurate. The front sight is about as easy as it gets to change out too, I got a fiber optic in mine. There's also a wolff spring kit you can buy for around 12 bucks if I remember right, the springs are easy to put in and there's a you tube video on how to do it.

Love my 6" GP-100! I wouldn't hesitate a second. Than again I'm a wheel gun fan. If you liked Taurus and Rossi, You'll love a Ruger!

I have a dozen pistols and my 6" GP100 is my favorite. I shoot it out to 150yards no problem.

I cant keep up with reloading with how much I love to shoot the gp.

The 6" GP100 was my first revolver and to give you fare warning these revolver feckers just start multiplying in the gun safe!

I ran some Buffalo Bore 180grn laser cast through mine over the weekend... WOW.. definitely a step up over the standard .357 mag.
