slicking up single action revolvers

Postby DaZhi on Tue Jun 10, 2014 11:28 pm

So I just acquired an Uberti 1875 Outlaw. I already had to replace the hand spring, which seems to be a common problem. A lot of fun to shoot, regardless!

Now I got the bug and would love to slick up the action. Anyone up to give me a crash course on single actions?

I think the operative word here is "CRASH", and generally tuning up the innards of a firearm is a skill that takes YEARS to master, if not decades. The trigger on my 50GI is literally to die for, but it was done by Victor Tibbets, Master Gunsmith for 25 years at Wilson Combat before he went with Alex to form Guncrafters. Same for JP in Hugo, and there are VERY FEW members here who can tune up the innards of a gun, and 1911fan was one of them, but passed several years ago...

That doesn't mean you can't learn all about how to work on a certain type of gun action, but actually being able to do it RIGHT is a whole different matter. Wake up and smell the coffee...

I'm certainly not planning a career in gunsmithing. I just like to know how things work. This is in the pursuit of knowledge.

Speaking of, any recommendations for single action gunsmiths?

Even Victor Tibbets had to start somewhere! :)

I googled - slick Uberti outlaw and quite a bit came up. Use it at your own risk.
