Ruger P345

Postby lumbering.buffalo on Thu Nov 06, 2014 2:19 pm

Kicking the tires...again. Looking for a decent value 45 semi.

Anybody carry one of these? Anybody carried one of these and went to something else? If so why?

Glocks leave me cold and striker-fired guns w/o a safety leave me nervous. Maybe I'm old school (maybe I'm just old) and like an external hammer. Have a couple of 1911's but have not spend enough time practicing with them to be comfortable.

Feedback welcome.

I just picked up a SAR K2 for $355 from Bud's Gunshop. It's very nice, especially for the price. It's heading back up but might be worth your consideration. Double stack 14+1. DA/SA. Safety.

And if you look close at the fonts on the guns, the method of affixing the serial number, and a few other things you will notice a similarity to Tanfoglio products and also the Desert Eagle 45 (single stack) and the frame which is made by BUL. In addition, my BUL Cherokee, with is a dead straight knockoff of a Tanfoglio. AFAIK, Tanfoglio has set up multiple pistol factories in different countries, and the quality differences appear to be minimal. A 14+1 45 for $355??? I'd be all over that like a bum on a baloney sandwich!!

K2 are no longer imported. Will parts be available?
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Still imported, just another distributor change. Supposedly this one will be at least partially owned by Sarsilmas.

In that case, I really regret missing the $355 deal

Ok, apparently no love for the Ruger.

- Not interested in a full-sized 45. Got a 1911 government model.
- Not interested in Turkish guns as the quality have been hit and miss.
- Not interested in a double-stacked 45. They don't fit my hand very well.
- Not interested in a gun w/o a decocker/safety as they make me nervous. Might be interested in a DAO.

Thanks.

Only experience I had with Ruger P series in .45 was shooting a friends gun that rattled like it was going to fall apart (sample of one, so YMMV).

How about http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/mobi ... ght_sights?

Have you looked into a compact 1911 like Springfield Range Officer Compact?

Taurus makes a good value .45. The PT145 is a double stacked, polymer famed, striker fired pistol. The magazines hold ten rounds but it's very comfortable to shoot. The gen 3 guns have a decent trigger.

Thought about the P220, but not interested in full-sized guns as I have been made while carrying my 226. Maybe I'll reconsider at some point, but probably would be more interested in a P245 if I could find one that wasn't so pricey.

Thanks for the feedback.

PRS: I'm not sure what I want, I just know what I can afford. My current semi's are expensive which makes me think twice about carrying them. I know that if, God forbid, I'm involved in a self-defense scenario my expensive gun is gone forever, unless I want to spend 10 times what its worth to try and get it back after all is said and done. My EDC is currently an inexpensive 5-shot revolver which I'm (almost) perfectly happy with. It's just that all the violent stuff in the news has me thinking I should step it up a little. I don't believe I need to outfit like Rambo, but if I'm going to carry a limited amount of ammo I'm thinking it should be in 45.

gdubya: I hadn't thought of that one thanks. Something to keep an eye out for.

Thanks again folks I have more than enough to mull over.
