Notes on the SAR K2...

1. The rear sight on mine worked itself loose after several hundred rounds of full power ammo, and this is how you fix it:

a. Unscrew the vertical adjustment screw all the way and remove it.
b. Knock out the roll pin at the front of the sight. It's not a big pain like most roll pins.
c. Remove the two screws holding the sight to the slide, and clean off the threads and dry that area.
d. Apply BLUE Loctite to screws and reassemble.

2. The recoil spring is of the same geometry as Tanfoglio (EAA) pistols, and the same number of turns. The way they change the spring weight is by using larger or smaller wire diameters. The stock spring appears to be 18 pounds, and if you want to stiffen up the action you can throw in a 22# Wolff spring to shoot hotter ammo.

3. Yes, Yukonjasper is right, this gun is set up like the iconic Browning Hi-Power and all Tanfoglios and EAA's, so the barrel sits very deep in the V between your thumb and fingers. It makes one hell of a difference in felt recoil.

4. Ran across an interesting but very obscure news snippet that EAA helped the Turks set up the production line for the SAR line of pistols. That pretty much sold me on getting one. The trigger group looks to be pure Tanfoglio.

5. The first time you shoot a full load of 15 rounds, you keep asking yourself "When the F**K is this thing gonna run dry????" :?: :?: :?:

Notes on the SAR K2...

Read your other posts on this handgun. Looks like a nice one! Something about a high capacity .45 That model doesn't have a decocking lever, does it? I have a Stoeger cougar 8000 that I like a lot. Really like the decocker as I go between DA and SA a lot when shooting.

Correct, no decocker.

Ok, confession time. I bunged up the small roll pin on the rear sight. I got it partially back in but I'm not happy with it. I realize that I used the wrong punch to get it started and when I had the sight off wasn't able to drift the sight over to get it better aligned for more windage adjustment.

That rear sight continues to be a pain in the neck.

That sucks. Sorry. Have you tried to order replacement parts yet?

No, the manual doesn't list it separately, just the rear sight assembly. It's been screwed up since I bought it, so maybe a new assembly wouldn't be a bad idea.

IIRC, I gave you a link for a whole new sight that's supposed to fit some time ago.

Thank you for posting the information, I do sincerely appreciate it.

I saw it and looked into it. The replacement sight isn't a perfect fit and requires shims etc. Given the fact that I screwed up a simple thing like a roll pin, I am not at all confident that I could drive the entire assembly out of the dovetail and either remove material or add shims to make it work. Probably not a big deal for some, and I consider myself pretty handy, but wrecking the slide would not be good. I know my limitations and I was reminded by the roll pin that gun smithing is not a skill I posses. What would a gun smith charge to replace that sight?

I'm not familiar with the K2, and wonder if a Sight Pusher tool would work?

I guess at $369 I can afford to spend some $$ on a gunsmith to do what I want. I'm dying because I think that K2 would be a great cold weather carry gun. I love how it shoots, the sights are the downfall.

so, what should I reasonably expect a gun smith to charge to replace the pin I messed up and as long as I'm at it should I have him replace that rear sight with the one that Sam suggested that needs shims etc? Who would you all recommend to do that work. Just called Gander Outdoors to check on when my "the Profit" purchases would be in and inquired about their on site "smithy". Got the standard - bring it in and we'll see if it is something we can do in house - that was just the pin replacement. I'm assuming a more challenging task may be well out of their reach. Any other people I should consider?

Thanks in advance.

found this out as I searched once again for a recent Rear Sight post somewhere.

The guy claims a match with the XS M&P rear site. Can it be true?
