Need a 1911 gunsmith, South Minneapolis.

Postby DrewTea on Fri Dec 30, 2016 9:53 pm

I've got a broken screw stuck in a grip bushing on my Springfield Mil-spec 1911. It's been like that for years, but I now want to sell it for something different in 9mm.

So, it needs to get fixed. I have full set of new bushings/screws already, I just don't have the tools to do it right. So I need to find a smith who does.

Preferably in So. Minneapolis area. Someone please point me in the right direction.

TIA.

Since you say your end goal is to sell. You may want to post for sale "as is". I'd personally rather buy a gun and fix it myself than pay more because someone just paid for a gunsmith to fix. Estimate what it would cost a gunsmith to look at and fix and subtract it out what you want out of it. Some of us rip the entire gun apart as soon as we get a gun anyway before it hits the range, so we'd rather get a better deal on the gun.

I'm the one who overtightened the damn screw and broke it off. My screw up, my problem.
I don't like selling broken things, and I don't like passing my problems on to the next guy. :P

For those that may be interested, here's what I'll be selling when it's fixed.

Image

Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec - Genesco IL, FI Brazil.

While I had it, I replaced the trigger (adjustable), barrel bushing, and the grips (aluminum).
I also have two sets of wood grips for it.
It has Meprolight tru-dot sights.
Has rubber finger grooves/wrap.
4 mags. Including a mec gar, and two Wilson Combats.
It will come with the sets of replacement bushings/screws. They are Strike Industries, and take a TORX bit (included)
I have just over 400 rounds of ammo that needs to go with it.

Actually had to mill a couple of these off, since the bushings were stripped in their staked pockets.

I always have this desire to have a Mil Spec but the last one I bought was only shot once and then sold in six months. Nice guns.

They're pretty snazzy. After I picked it up from FJ540 I took it to bills for a few mags. Still shoots nice - I'd keep it if I could afford the gun I want without having to sell it.
