Ruger American Compact Pro 9mm?

Postby goalie on Tue Mar 14, 2017 6:18 pm

So, any of you guys have one? I like the idea of ambi-controls, and the one I fondled had a better trigger than any of my G19s came with out of the box.

For one $350 shipped, I might try one out. The 9E full sized are under $300 shipped too, maybe try 'em both.

Said screw it and ordered one of each. And a case of Blazer brass 124gr to test 'em out with.

At the worst I can keep one at the cabin and one in the shop in lock boxes.

Cool, let us know how they do.

I am a big fan of XD Mod2 and with current 4 free mags rebate they are hard to beat.

If some of these double stack guns had standardized magazines I would be out of safe space by now. Stocking all different magazines is a good deterrent for me.

That's what I was talking about. I couldn't pass it up. Or the 9E...

How in hell do you get 17 rounds of 9mm into a grip that short?? Is it a triple stack mag??? :( :o  :?

Edit: Never mind..... I read the notice that the picture they show is "any old 9mm", and may not be the actual gun you are buying. Talk about a cheap website....

I agree about the price, however....

This is my 17 round 9mm for $350, and it shoots just fine, even fits my troll hands

Interesting!! It IS a compact 9mm, and if I shot it with the lowcap mag my pinky finger would be waving around like I was a great Monty Python poofta, but with a hicap mag the grip actually gets LONGER!! Seeing as I am almost totally ignorant about widdle bitty gunz, has anybody else done this, or has Ruger come up with a brand new concept??

It is just a sleeve over a full-sized magazine. You can do it with G17 mags in a G26 too.

I am excited to try these out. The 9E trigger doesn't suck dry-firing. I didn't get the American compact yet.

I really like the trigger on both of them. The American Compact Pro is heavier than I had imagined it, but it feels good in the hand. The 9E feels nice as well. Took 3 minutes to remove the magazine disconnect so I can dry-fire it without a mag in.

I'll put 500 rounds through each of them and give an update as to how they ran. I really hope HST 124g +P shoots well out of both of them, as that's what I use in my Glocks and Shield.

For 300 bucks and a transfer fee, the Ruger 9E is a steal.

I put 350 round of Blazer Brass 124g through it. Then 100 rounds of 115g Wolf Polyformance or something (cheap ammo). Then I put 50 rounds of Federal HST 124g +P through it. Then I put another 50 of Blazer Brass through it.

No malfunctions at all. I did have a few pieces of brass (technically, steel) to the face with the Wolf crap ammo, but it all went bang and was reasonably accurate. I wasn't able to limp-wrist it and create any malfunctions. The +P HST didn't feel snappy at all.

The American Compact got shot less, as I only have two mags for it. I got a two pack of 17 rounders for the 9E from Grab-A-Gun for under 40 bucks, so I can load a box at a time for that pistol. It ran just fine with no malfunctions and better ejection with the Wolf, but it didn't "feel" as nice to me.

I did remove the magazine disconnect from the 9E when I first got it and cleaned it. I tested it, and it fired without a magazine. Removal takes all of 3 minutes tops. The 9E also doesn't have the huge LCI that the SR9 series has. Shooting this has me considering trying the SR9C though, despite that monstrosity of a LCI on the top, as it would carry better than my G26 with the same capacity, and it's almost as thin as my Shield.

Overall, I am really glad I got both. They will be nice for when I take new shooters to the range, especially ones that don't want to drop 500+ on their first handgun. Most LOVE the GP100 4", but balk at the price tag. Same with the Glocks.

Oh, and FWIW, the 9E fits into my R Grizzle leather OWB holster for my G19. Haven't checked with kydex ones yet.
