I got my first 1911

I have wanted one for a long time and it has finally happened.

Since I march to the beat of my own bagpipe player I got a Rock Island 22TCM/9mm combo, full-size single-stack. Only put 12 rounds through it yesterday (in TCM configuration) because the heat and the bugs were too oppressive. I liked it, and my wife didn't hate it (other than the fact that she thinks I already had too many guns).

I lost 1/3 of my brass (shooting at 7 yards on the 50 yard rim-fire/pistol range - lost 4 cases to the weeds). I need to get some dies for this, and a large tarp because this brass ain't cheap or plentiful.

Maybe today I'll see how the recoil is in 9mm and put more than a dozen rounds through it.

Is it technically a 1911 if it is not in .45?

Congrats on the new purchase.

Congrats on the new purchase.

Maybe 1911 style is more appropriate.

Cool purchase

Congrats linksep! That TCM round is supposed to spit some fire balls with the right load

It is definitely a 1911 (in a single stack configuration), unlike the Coonan which throws larger fireballs but has some design differences ;)

Yes, if it is in 38 Super.

As long as your main gun is big enough and doesn't misfire, she'll put up with a lot of extra pistols and rifles.

I've thought that 9/22TCM combo looked fun since they first came out. Nice choice!

Range report:

100 rounds of Winchester White Box 9mm (100 round value pack) and 70 rounds of 22TCM down the respective pipes.
Hopefully I'm the problem... I had terrible 25 yard groups. Even seated from the bench I think my best 5-shout group that was probably 10" (10" vertical and 4-6" horizontal) using 22TCM. I didn't even shoot for groups in 9mm, I was more interested in function and break-in, which was flawless (except for the fact that I can only fit 9 rounds my 10 round magazines). I am happy to report that it's a ton of fun. The 22TCM does have a big fireball and a big caliber bang. I'm going to have a world-class pistol shooter check it out and see what kind of groups the gun itself is actually capable of. Hopefully I just need more practice.

I have complained numerous times that I'm done buying polished pistols because they take too long to clean (because I can see all the gunk)... I can confidently say that Parkerized finish guns take too long to clean (because I can't see all the gunk).

Only lost one piece of brass today since I was able to shoot on the 25-yard lane with mostly concrete and gravel at the 4 O'clock position where the 22TCM brass was being thrown.

I took this out yesterday with a buddy that has a chrono. Five rounds of factory ammo through the chrono averaged dang near 2100 FPS (I think the low was 2086 FPS) with surprising consistency (had to get out the manual to find out what error "dup 01" meant - it means duplicate readings).

I can still barely hit the broad side of a barn with it.

That's moving pretty good. Cool.
