Scoping the 480 Ruger...

Postby Rodentman on Mon Sep 04, 2017 6:29 am

I got my 480 used and it didn't come with the proprietary scope rings. Just as well, as I decided to use a Weigand mount:

I ordered the pkg with 3 rings for $108. Looks like it will hold the scope. I read stories about the Ruger rings working loose and I figured this was a better mounting system.

Nice. What's your intent with that big horse? Targets or hunting or both?

Just target shooting. I'm not very good with the iron sights.

The mount is as likely to work loose as the rings but with the ruger system you could only get two rings, so that mount may be a better choice, and more weight helps recoil control.

I'm not a big fan of rugers system, but while I had issues with it, it was my fault for not tightening the rings on a regular basis and not using the high temp loctite.

Thanks for the info. I will be sure to Loctite it and check it often.
