Rescued a wayward orphan from foster care.

Postby Rip Van Winkle on Sat Nov 10, 2018 3:30 pm

I found this poor unloved S&W M325PD on consignment at Arnzen Arms today. I didn't have the heart to put it back in the case. :D

Now I just need to find some time to shoot it.

That is a cool gun. I have always been terrible with revolvers, and eventually had to just give up on them. If I was going to give them another try, that’s probably the one I’d get.

I've been in the market, on and off, for a revolver for years. Until today, I've always managed to talk myself out of it.

I've got a 625 and a 929. You'll love it!

What is the consensus on moon clips in a defensive scenario? I assume you want loaded clips readily available so you carry them like a speed loader? How quick are moon clips to load?

Sorry, no experience with them at all. Not even sure I've held one.

More complex than one without them. More complicated than a double stack semi auto too.

Moon clips are faster to use than most as far as reload speed.

They are pretty wide though, so not very concealable and are succeptable to being knocked out of alignment. To me, a moonclipped revolver is close to as fast to reload as a semiauto, but because of the whole size thing, especially a .45, just not very concealable.

They are fun range toys, but my experience with the titanium/scandium guns is they recoil pretty heavy due to their very light weight. I’ve got a 329 that I’ve used as bear repellent, but it’s a bit of a handful, and my 625 pushes me around more than a 1911 does.

Moonclips are a necessity when using rimless cartridges in a revolver. That is if you want to get them out of the chambers easily.

I haven't had much time to play with them, and I'm no Jerry Miculek, I don't think I'll ever be able to reload my new charge as fast as I can my 1911.

I finally had a chance to take the wayward youth out to the range this afternoon.

Recoil is a little sharper than the 1911, and the sights are high, but I can make it work. ;)
