S&W M&P

Postby Rodentman on Sat Jan 05, 2019 2:46 pm

I have a PC S&W M&P 40. When cleaning it I noticed a pin appearing to be backing out of the underside of the slide. I tried gently pushing it in with a punch, no hammer. I figured I ask here if it is supposed to be flush before I start hammering on it.

Thanks...Image

I checked a mp9 and a mp9 pc. They were either flush or slightly recessed.

Thanks! Seems rather clear that the pin is not properly seated sticking out like that. Hopefully nothing will stop the pin from being seated. Maybe I need to disassemble the slide. I will look into that.

If it walked out once, it will probably do it again sooner or later. I would order a new pin and replace this one versus just hammering it back.

If it were mine, I'd want to know what it was holding in place before driving it back in.

Yeah that's good advice. It seated fairly easily, almost too easily with a few light hammer hits on the punch. I'll knock it out and get a new one, maybe a few spares...thx for the advice.

This is exactly the sort of thinking that takes all of the fun out of home Gunsmithing. :badmood:

But, sometimes “hold my beer and watch this” wins.

It holds the extractor in but didn't back out enough to allow the extractor to be affected.
