Stripped Grip Screw

Postby sprigfan on Wed Jan 15, 2020 6:42 pm

Being an absolute bonehead, I stripped the head on one of the grip screws on my brand new P229 (slotted head). There is red thread sealant on the three I did get off. I sure hope Sig isn't stupid enough to put red loctite on these screws. I want to replace the grips, but would still like to preserve the grip that came with the gun, so a dremel is probably out.

All things considered, I'd rather just take it to a gunsmith. Anyone have any recommendations around Eagan/Bloomington?

Can you drill the center and use an Easy-Out? I have the tools if you don't and will loan them to you.

I'm sure I can try to drill it out. I've been going back and forth on it. Just don't want to mess up a gun I haven't even fired yet.

Sprigfan, I'm glad you got it out without damaging your grips. I was happy to offer you help. That's what we, as gun owners should do, help our fellow gun owners, when we can.
