I typically go to gunbroker and search on "completed" auctions. Then I pay attention only to the ones that actually had bids on them, rather than the wish-I-could-get-it auctions with starting prices that no one takes them up on.

Same here. Plus I check the local classifieds and underprice them all if I need a quick sale.

Make sure you compare the same caliber. 40 is getting tough to get rid of, I would suspect it will be worth less than a 9 in the same gun.

I did a brief look at the 40 S&W version but not at closed auctions. Will be going back today to look. When I told her what I found so far, she was disappointed and said she will keep it. Think she paid $750 for it new awhile back. Don't think she has shot more than 50 rounds through it. She switched to a ruger 9mm a few years ago. Try getting her to the range is like pulling teeth from a gator. Shot it once at a indoor range with maybe 3 clips. Nice sub compact she carries in her purse. Me, I like my 40 S&W.

Unfortunately, a used .40 anything will not bring many of the dollars. The fact that it's HK might make it worse; I'm not sure how hard it is, or if it's possible to rebarrel one of those, unlike a Glock 23, for example, which is pretty much drop in (I know, the extractor claw is different, but you can still shoot it).

Don't count on getting that $750 back, even with less than 100 rounds through it. You might get $500, probably closer to $400 if you can find a buyer locally. Selling it on GB will mean you'll probably realize $300 after shipping and transfer fees, unless you're an FFL or someone will do it for you for free.

Good luck. I'd say just hold onto it, and wait for better days. I've done this with several pistols.

Most likely hang onto it. To big a loss. Good solid pistol though. Good backup gun if needed. Maybe another panic will happen and get lucky, but doubt it.

Just wait until (if) the dems get back in power... its value will jump!
