Am on the hunt for a good 22LR pistol. Looking for recommendations. Want a reliable pistol. Been looking at the browning Buck Mark URX and the Ruger Charger take down so far. Never owned a 22LR pistol before. Need a companion to my S&W AR 15-22. Thanks.

Taurus tx22, Ruger sr22, Ruger mk4.

These are the pistols that functioned well with standard ammo. Especially suppressed.

My wife has the Walther P22. It's fussy with ammo, but accepts any CCI with zero problems. It's a fun little gun.

I have the 9mm conversion on my Beretta 92FS, and have used that in league shooting. It's kind of like cheating.

My Ruger SR22 is fussy about ammo, even after Ruger put a new barrel on it. My Ruger MKiii and 22/45 lite will eat anything all day long no problems. Had a Berreta Neos at one point, complete junk that malfunctioned every 100-150 rounds. I also have a Browning 1911-22 but have not shot it enough to comment on reliability.

Buck Mark URX and the Ruger Charger take down are pretty different pistols. I have an original Ruger Charger and the thing is a tack driver with a cheap red dot on it.

My favorite is a CZ Kadet kit on a CZ 75B frame. Not cheap but fun and very accurate. In fact accurate enough I sold my SW 41 AFTER getting it.

My favorite is a 1911 conversion from Nelson Custom, but I like 1911s altogether.

Ruger Mark III 22/45 has been a good reliable pistol for me and is what I used in competition before getting the 1911 conversion. Mark IV has an easier takedown but also has an unsightly hinge

Browning 1911-22 is pretty small, so definitely check that out before buying.

Had an opportunity to shoot the dedicated Beretta 92 in .22 as well as the conversion. Both very nice options. These also have 15 round magazines which is nice as most others have 10-12.

Thanks folks for the replies. Thinking i am leaning toward the ruger charger take down for around $350 or so. But the browning has my attention. Still researching. Thanks for your imput.

Isn’t that just a 10/22 with a different grip and short barrel? If so, I can tell you my 10/22 does not care whether the bullet is a hollow point or round nose - all feed great!

I have a Beretta Neos that I've had for nearly 9 years. I have only had one issue with it, when it was new. I was at BPR and it jammed with a round in the chamber. I couldn't fire it, nor could I get the slide back to eject the round. Not able to disassemble either. I even had the RO there try, with No Joy, and he said that my gun was the second Neos they had seen do the same thing. I ended up having to return it to Beretta (yes loaded) at their expense. Four weeks later it was returned, and I never received any type of explanation of what caused the jam.

Since getting it back, it has fired everything I have fed it. I have to say that it is quite accurate, easy to strip down ( as long as it isn't jammed ) which makes it quite easy to clean. It has been my fun .22 pistol to shoot since the first and only issue with it.

As stated, one of the best .22 pistols is the ruger Mark line. Nothing wrong with a Mark I, II, or III and will be found used. Hard to wear one of those out.

I'm down to 5 and a Canik clone my SP01 Shadow is the favorite. Then polished stainless for shooters. Glossy blue and nickel pretty much safe queens. The Kadet is on a glossy blue frame, threaded with Sparrow suppresor. The Canick is like the PCR but with a safety since CZ doesn't make an alloy frame compact with a safety.

My wife and I both have Ruger SR22s; out of six magazines I think we got three good ones, the others cause malfunctions but other than that we both really like them and they have eaten everything they've been fed from Remington Subsonic to Remington Bucket-'O-Bullets to Winchester 333 (or 555) to CCI Mini-mags and CCI Stingers and CCI Quiet-SemiAuto. My wife also has a 6" Beretta Neos in Cabelas Exclusive green which is super fun and has been super reliable except for that time when the firing pin channel clogged up with carbon causing light-strikes.
