I don't have a S&W 10mm in a 1911- do have a couple older ones (1006, 1076, 1086)
However, I do have a number of other ones in a 1911 format. (Colt, SVI, and a Clark custom)
If you get it and have issues with finding ammo-
The S&W had (the ones I saw) an external extractor, so its more likely it will work like mine have...
Try shooting .40S&W in it. Odds are pretty good it will work just fine. The biggest problem tends to be that they have some feeding issues with short bullet (HP) loads. If you handload the .40, load them a bit long (1.175 or so) and I have had no issues at all. Essentially its like shooting .38SPL in a .357- lower pressure cartridge, shorter round, less recoil, etc.
The semiautos supposedly headspace on the case mouth. I wouldn't drop a round in the chamber and then drop the slide and expect it to work well- but for the most part, the extractor tends to hold the round on the breach face well enough that they function fine from the magazine- you just really have to scrub the chamber afterwards if you want to use the full house 10mm in it. Also, if it doesn't go off when you pull the trigger, you have to check to make sure that there is nothing else there, like normal (but 2 .40 rounds don't fit...)
Just realized I misread and thought you said S&W when you said Ruger...
probably still applies... but I am not up on the Rugers.
