Found the brass. Starline only in stock. Never used starline before. All ammo is OOS. Prefer to reload but commercial ammo to get the brass works for me. With another shooting in colorado yesterday, may have to consider a wheel gun. The democrats are going to go full retard on semi autos. For now I will source supplies before getting any pistol.

Ordered brass from powder valley. Thanks oldman.

Also, if you get the 1911 in 10 mm be sure to post a picture of it, so we can all drool on our screens

With a .460 Rowland on my hip, I will not be drooling over caliber-

but a nice looking 1911 always............

Searching the web on 10MM pistols. Saw a SA XDm that looks identical to my XDm in 40S&W. Got me thinking if a barrel swap would work. Will have to check my magazines and do measurements before getting to excited about the possibility. Would save me some bucks if it’s possible. But then again, a true 1911 would be sweet to own. Very slim pickings from my Google fu.

Came across an article about using 40 S&W dies for 10MM.
https://www.smithandwessonforums.com/th ... 10mm.9621/

Seems doable. Just back off the die. Anyone try this? Since I have dies for the 40, would save me some bucks if this works.

My dies say 40s&w / 10mm on em, just like my 38/357.
You'll just have to adjust going back and forth.

Won't work, 10mm I'd bigger and the mag won't fit in the gun and it's a powerful round the spring wouldn't be able to handle it nor would the gun.

However, I do have a number of other ones in a 1911 format. (Colt, SVI, and a Clark custom)

If you get it and have issues with finding ammo-

The S&W had (the ones I saw) an external extractor, so its more likely it will work like mine have...

Try shooting .40S&W in it. Odds are pretty good it will work just fine. The biggest problem tends to be that they have some feeding issues with short bullet (HP) loads. If you handload the .40, load them a bit long (1.175 or so) and I have had no issues at all. Essentially its like shooting .38SPL in a .357- lower pressure cartridge, shorter round, less recoil, etc.

The semiautos supposedly headspace on the case mouth. I wouldn't drop a round in the chamber and then drop the slide and expect it to work well- but for the most part, the extractor tends to hold the round on the breach face well enough that they function fine from the magazine- you just really have to scrub the chamber afterwards if you want to use the full house 10mm in it. Also, if it doesn't go off when you pull the trigger, you have to check to make sure that there is nothing else there, like normal (but 2 .40 rounds don't fit...)

Just realized I misread and thought you said S&W when you said Ruger...

probably still applies... but I am not up on the Rugers.

Wait, you are shooting .40 s&w in a 10mm using the extractor to hold it in enough for the firing pin?

Yes.

The case dimensions aside from length are the same. 10mm dies are the same as .40 S&W.

As I said, the extractor does hold the .40 case in place, its just a bit dirty in the chamber afterwards.

Its worked with:
10mm SVI Infinity (this has an AFTEC extractor, so that makes it rather reliable.)
Colt Delta Elite
Colt Delta Gold Cup
Clark custom Pin gun
S&W 1006
S&W 1076
S&W 1086

And its a "duh" with the S&W 610, as they use moon clips.

At times in the past, finding 10 mm was somewhat "problematic".

Looked at my magazines for my XDm 40 S&W. Won't work. Maxed out on space with current bullets.

I knew of the 610 interchangeability, just did not know without a case mouth to rest on it would fire. Interesting.

Didn’t know SA made a EMP4 for 40 S&W. Looks like a full size 1911. If I could get one of these, would skip 10MM.

Check out the specs closely, EMP are supposed to be smaller than a regular commander size 1911. I remember handling one and it was smaller, just not sure what caliber it was. If it is, you are looking at finding proprietary magazines.

Grip is skinnier front to back on the EMP.
