I have an EMP in .40 S&W. Very nice little 1911. Very compact. Definitely not a full size 1911.

EMP4 is larger than the original EMP.

In barrel length, not in frame dimensions.

Thanks H&H, that is what I was trying to express - EMP frame is smaller than a standard 1911 so magazines are proprietary and one loses access to quality aftermarket magazines like Wilson and Tripp.

Not to discourage anybody from buying one. I heard good things about it.

Doesn't the EMP just use compact 1911 mags?

Gun shop inventory has been getting better recently, still not back to pre-crazy levels though. Ammo I think is going to be a new normal for the next couple of years at least and never will be priced back down where it was. $9.99 9mm and $49.99 cases of trap loads are a think of the past I think.

Nah we will see it again... 6 months before the next "hits the fan" event which will drive it back up.

I know the shortages as I am a reloader. Bet the emails I get from ruger, SA, etc telling me they are running 24/7 to supply the demand seems they are either lying the arse off or someone (cough government cough) is buying it up. there are plenty of other pistols out there on the shelves but NO 1911's. Guess I picked the wrong time to get a hard on of a 1911, BUT, I might get lucky shortly.

I recall post Sandy Hook when ammo trippled and AR lowers were scarce as hen's teeth. Primers as well. It took a few years but it settled back down to what it was. There have been a couple bumps in the roads since but I think the real issue this time was the perfect storm of the pandemic and the riots after the Floyd incident. A lot of new gun buyers and a lot of new gun buyers buying ammo. Also a lot of gun shops holding ammo back to sell to new gun buyers so they could sell them guns. Now AFTEB is trying to redefine what is a receiver and a stock.

It did settle down but that was a singular incident. It also helped that the Hillary scare caused inventory to increase and when Trump was elected it flooded the market. Who would have ever thought you could buy 9mm at $6.99 a box of 50? or and AR for $330? Those were sweet times.

This is different. Will it get better? yes but material prices have escalated, labor costs have escalated and the dollar has lost value. I am telling you right now a box of 9mm on the shelf at the store will never be 9.99 again. I wish it weren't so.
