Okay, someone please guide me through the SBR rules again...

Postby Lumpy on Thu Apr 08, 2021 3:37 pm

This whole mess with stocks, braces, rifles vs. pistols, illegal conversion, "intended as when manufactured", etc. etc. is giving me a headache. The whole 1934 NFA length deal is ABSURD. Anyway, is the BATFE likely to say under Biden's executive order rules that it doesn't like my Springfield Saint Victor? Is or will it be illegal to remove the stock that comes with it? Is it legal but only if it came with a stock and adding a stock if it didn't have one would make it illegal?

I think it's dangerous to presume, or second guess what tripper joe, or his new atff-er have in mind.
The nominee, a long time atf bureaucrat and cheerleader for the antigun left, once claimed the Branch Davidians shot down a gov't helicopter during the siege on the Waco, TX compound. He failed to respond when was pointed out that no helicopters crashed there, that day.
In my world, the interpretation would be the brace will become a no no on a 'pistol' that isn't registered as an SBR, and that an AR pistol, sans brace or stock, is still a pistol.
Of course, that begs the question: Would anyone use a brace on an SBR, when a collapsible stock is a legitimate option?

Remember what you paid for my opinion, and don't call me when the black Suburbans roll up on you.

I don't know, but I guess I'm glad I don't have any of my AR pistols anymore!

Don’t worry none of your ARs will be legal when he gets done anyway.

Suggest you hold off on doing anything if you have a AR with a brace. Let Them announce there rules so we know what they are going for. Then sit back and watch the court challenges that will take years to figure it out.

Or hold off a bit while the price of pistols with a brace go higher and higher.

Okay, I nearly understand that. It's such a mess that it's virtually the only thing pro-gun and anti-gun people agree on: that the whole shebang ought to be tossed, just that the pros want to legalize it all and the antis want to ban it all.

Anyway, if I decide to remove the brace and add a (non-vertical) foregrip, is that okay? Or is that an illegal modification? Or would it be an illegal modification to do it the other way around?

Oh, and that schematic needs to have the same pistol with brace twice, the first time labeled "looks like a rifle but is a pistol", and the second time labeled "The ATF decided this is really a stock, not a brace, so now it's a short-barreled rifle".

'effin riddikulous. :x

What do you mean by a non vertical foregrip?

Read on another forum that if the antis were smart, they would have an amnesty to either offer free SBR registration or $5 AOW registration for all of these not quite SBRs they seem to be concerned about.

Sort of like the big amnesty prior to the GCA of 1968, where even stolen full autos could be registered free from charges.

Of course, that probably won't happen, but if it did, I might consider it. If I owned something like this.

If you have a shoulder thing that goes up, I'd get rid of it right now. They're sure to make them illegal.
