I love my 45, I do shoot my 9s more often since I do not worry about that brass, so if I have control over the shooting area, I will bring on of my 45s

Love the 1911 in .45 acp, but have owned in other calibers and still have in 10mm, 9mm and of course .45 acp. A past local Sheriff/neighbor got me hooked maybe 30 years or more ago. Have owned many over the years, Colt, Rock River, Ed Brown, Kimber and my favorite, Les Baer.
Current carry, pre series II, Kimber Pro CDP.

I don’t like an ambi safety on my 1911 carry gun. I have had the safety brushed off a couple of times. Carry in Milt Sparks VersaMax IWB. Also carry a Kimber Pro.

I do have ambl safeties on my competition guns.

I agree on the ambi safety, I've experienced that a couple times too.

When I first started carrying, it was either a Para P12 or a S&W 1911. Then I switched to Glock. After a lot more training, practicing, and competing, I really don't like the grip safety anymore. Shooting Glocks I'm always trying to get as high a grip as possible. When I go back to a 1911 I sometimes don't deactivate the grip safety. I see plenty of other shooters do the same, especially after reloads. When I think about the stress of a self defense encounter, maybe being in a physical struggle, I prefer the simplicity of a striker fired pistol, no manual safeties. YMMV

I adjust the grip safety on my 1911's to reduce the amount of travel to de-activate to a minimum.

I had a couple Glocks years ago. Went back to 1911's for 45's. Never liked the "wide" feel of the double stack Glocks and the way they "point". I shoot enough competition the manual safety is natural for me.

Do we have a 5 year record here for most posts in a thread? :)

Been reading up on 45ACP for ammo. Sounds like ball ammo has no issues but hollow point has issues. Is this an ammo manufacturer issue or handgun manufacturer issue?

Never had much problems with HP in my 1911's.

I'm far from an expert compared to many hereabouts, but I believe the issue with, not only hollow points, but most any non-ball ammo, is in a stock 1911 platform, and it relates to feed issues due to feed ramp angles, smoothness.. I don't know of other platforms that suffer similar issues as much as 1911s do.
My XDs in 45 ACP eat everything without a hiccup

Further, there are those who say 45 ball ammo is the better SD round at the speeds the round enters its target.
I am of the mind that a hot round of ball ammo, with enough steam to exit the far side of a human target is more dependable than a lighter, faster, smaller round designed to expend.

And do remember what my opinion cost you.

Don’t forget the magazines. I don’t know of another pistol for which one has so many different magazine options.

Personally, I never had feeding issues with JHP in modern 1911s using modern reputable magazines

The ammo manufacturers have improved things as well.

I had a great deal of trouble decades ago getting the Speer 200 gr JHP (aka the flying ashtray) feeding in most of my 1911’s.

I’ve had no issues with the new federal hydrashoks or Winchester ranger ammo in the last 10 or so years.

Both improved bullet designs and improved gun manufacturing play a role.

IF you decide to reload and need supplies, I have dies, brass, bullets, 231 powder, but sadly very few primers.
