Anyone know much about this caliber? Been reading a little on it. Looks like 40 grain is the largest ammo. A little over 2000 fps. Was on Rugers web site and saw the LC Charger that caught my eye. Would appreciate any info on this caliber. Thanks.

What do you want to know?

I have a PS90 and a FN pistol in it.

They do make LE/military AP rounds for it. In the PDW format, its essentially a .22 hornet. A 150-ish varmint gun, but does not give the usual dramatic varmint effects except on close range crows.

With the vmax type bullets, its more effective than the .22 WMR in a handgun on varmints. Its low recoil, but somewhat noisy compared to other smallbore handgun rounds- but quieter than a usual centerfire .22. low recoil impulse.

The ammo is reloadable (but a bit technically touchy.) It is also more expensive. It was designed to be a PDW round to deal with replacing pistols for rear echelon troops with a capability of dealing with 90's vintage body armor.

in my PS90 its about a 1.5-2 MOA gun. The handgun is usual service pistol accuracy. It kills coons and feral animals well, but its not really a great SD choice unless you can get the AP round and you are worried about body armor.

Thanks for the reply. Just curious about the caliber. Read a little more on it from using my google fu. What would you say on max effective range on this caliber? From my limited research, looks like around 250 yards but not sure. Still reading more.

If you are talking hitting something, I would think 250 is right with a decent rifle (the PS90 has a mushy heavy bull pup trigger).

However, I wouldn’t use it even on varmints past 150. I was unimpressed by it on a feral at 100.

From a military point of view, it’s actually pretty versatile. It’s just not much of a killer, despite what video games show.

Was looking at Rugers pistol but now looking at the carbine. Nice folding stock. Watched a video on taking it apart. Looks like a nightmare. Doubt I will get one. Not sure yet though. Like the flat trajectory though. I’ll keep reading on it during the winter. If I’m correct, that PS90 was in the latest bad boys movie. A bit expensive.

A very interesting cartridge.
I've only got to shoot one gun in the cartridge. A Kel-Tek P50. I have a friend getting on in years and he's starting to acquire 'unusual' guns and in my opinion this sure is one of them.

It was fun to shoot, little recoil, which the Kel-Tek absorbed nicely and the gun seem accurate enough although we shot standing. I'd really like to have some support to see what it could really do.
Loading the magazines for the P50 was just totally the pits. A problem you won't have if you go with the Ruger offering.

Won’t be until spring before I decide. Have to take care of Christmas costs. The disassembly of the carbine has me leaning no. Have to watch some more videos. Another issue is when suppressed, 1st round won’t fire. Have watched multiple videos on the carbine and all say the same thing. One of the videos stated he things the cans used are the issue and will get a can for that caliber and try again. But after the 1st no fire and they eject it, the rest fire fine. Weird as crap.

This is what has kept me away from this round. The lacquer coating on the brass just is not worth the fuss.

RodentMan had one.

I helped him with his reloading issues and after that he stated all went smoothly.
Like a bottleneck rifle cartridge the shoulder needed to be pushed back correctly.

The polymer coating does look ugly as it comes off, but it really doesn’t interfere with the reloading process.

My issues were twofold.

The priming can be touchy because it’s such a small case.

Given I have multiple guns, I have to remember to either push the shoulder back further to accommodate both guns or keep the ammo segregated.

It’s a fun round, just really small. It’s still less of a PITA than the .17’s.

Don’t think I would reload this round if I decide to get the carbine. Does this caliber drop like a rock after a certain range like the 300 BO or does it keep going like the 22?

It’s analog is the .22 hornet.

It isn’t as rainbow as the Blk or a .22 rimfire, but it’s no .223.
