The trooper uses a transfer bar in between the hammer and the firing pin. It is safer to drop the hammer on a loaded chamber but the trigger pull suffers a little bit. Double action is definately heavier and not as smooth as with my S&W 686, Single action is not as crisp. Will that matter? I don't now yet. What I like is that the bore axis is lower on the trooper which was my only gripe with the Smith.
