One panel has no hairline cracks at all, the other one has a couple on one end.

Keep an eye on them. Small cracks can turn into bigger ones...... but not always. If they start growing, let me know. We might be able to stop it.

Why did you ever get out of the 'biz'? I know this is way beyond the original scope of the thread but the original question has been adressed... a lot.

WOW---------------that is a beautiful knife Ron. I have a couple of handmade knives-one fillet--one all purpose hunting. They both were made by a gentleman that has since passed on. All the steel he used in the blades of his knives came from old ice saws that he would find here and there. No ivory handles though. IMNSHO-----if you don't use them-----you will never know if you have a quality knife or if it's just a work of art.

If you plan on keeping it in a display case, make sure you have it out of direct light, especially sunlight. I'd also suggest a light coating of Renaissance Wax or Flitz Gun and Knife Wax at least once a year.
