I'm interested in joining a few competition hand gun leagues, and was wondering if the glock 34/35 would be good guns for a novice to start with? If so, which caliber do you recommend?

The 34 in 9mm would be a better choice. Follow-up shots are quicker with less recoil.

longer sight radius, 0.84 in longer barrel, lighter trigger pull and adjustable sights. If you're going to be using it strictly for competition I would go with a 34 over a 17, if there is any chance you'll use it for carry I'd stick with the 17.

I own both. Great guns, and for IPSC they are a great choice. Very reliable and long site radius.
