Glock 45- what to get

So it's not a popular cartridge. Neither is 10mm or .357 SIG. They're not going anywhere, either.

Why do people who don't own a GAP pistol act like they're being forced to?

Move along, aren't there some kids on your lawn or something?

The point is, its getting hard to find .45 GAP ammo in stores already. .45 ACP is pretty much always gonna be there. Its like comparing 7-30 waters vs 3030, Try to find the first, try not finding the latter.

No, the OP's point was it is a cartridge that failed to accomplish anything it was designed to.

It's a .45 caliber bullet in a shorter casing. It allowed GLOCK to design a smaller alternative to the G21 while still performing like the .45 ACP (the ballistics are all over the web, don't bother arguing about it). I'd say it acheived everything it was designed for, except maybe widespread adoption.

The .45 GAP biggest problem is ammunition availability and manufacturers that support it. I don't think either Para or Springfield make GAP pistols anymore, so you are pretty-much stuck with GLOCK (a manufacturer people love to hate, anyway).

The wharrrrgarbl about the GAP has been around since it was first released in 2003. I've never seen such a product generate so much butthurt from people who don't own it.

And finally, who buys ammo in stores?

The 10mm and the 357 SIG are both cartridges that can do things a LOT of others can't, and the 10mm was selected by a lot of Federal and local law enforcement agencies as their official sidearm. The 357 SIG is the weapon of choice by a lot of LEO's these days, AND is the official US Sky Marshal's gun. The 10mm is very much a cult round, but EVERYBODY (including Glock!!!) pretty much offers a gun in this caliber, and the ballistics of the 10mm make both the 45 ACP and the 45 GAP look weak by comparison. The 357 SIG delivers the same terminal ballistics as the very well known and tested (on decades of bad guys) 357 Magnum 125 grain JHP round in a hicap autoloader.

The 45 GAP,on the other hand has never been show to exhibit any ballistic superiority over the 45 ACP worth talking about, and mutiple manufacturers have dropped the caliber from their line. Oh, and BTW, if you have a 45 ACP, you can switch to 45 Super and go up all the way to 41 mag terminal ballistics if the gun is set up right. There is NO magnum version of a 45 GAP. Question to the peanut gallery: Do they even offer 45 GAP in a +P loading, much less +P+??

Just for fun, why don't you name just ONE Federal, State, or local police force that has standardized on the 45 GAP??? :crickets:

Geez, you don't see me getting defensive about my collection of 41 Action Express guns, do you?? They're rather interesting historical pieces that got wiped off the face of the Earth by the 40 S&W, but they're still fun to shoot. And unlike the 45 GAP, the 41AE DID offer a very unique way of going from a 9mm pistol up to a 41 caliber weapon that at the time had a great deal or relevance to IMPROVED performance for civilians and LEO's.

So get off MY lawn, kid.

Here's 5.

New York State Police
Georgia State Patrol
Pennsylvania State Police
South Carolina Highway Patrol
Florida Highway Patrol

This stuff really isn't too hard to google, btw.

Honestly, I really can't comprehend the ginormous butthurt the GAP generates.

So you hate the GAP. That's fine with me. At least explain the reason behind your jihad. ETA: Especially since you'be never owned a firearm chambered in .45 GAP.

I'll be over shortly to confiscate all your guns and replace them with teh .45 GAP.

To be fair, Sam, published velocity to bullet weight data for factory ammo would suggest that .45 Gap 185 grain loads are approaching .45 ACP +p 185 grain loads.

Sam has a problem with the .45 GAP, it appears.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

One good reason to go the .45GAP route would be so you could buy all the ammunition from folks who confused it for .45ACP on the cheap... :D

You could also probably trim .45ACP to make .45GAP brass, but the extractor grove is slightly different which could lead to problems:

Sam is right though, the .45GAP is idiotic as far as design is concerned. It's almost like releasing the .22 short after the .22lr was invented/dominant.

If you're so offended/upset/outraged by the caliber, then don't buy it.

Why is this so hard?

Are you trying to be .45GAP's protective dad who needs to defend it on the Internet? I'm stating an opinion, if you have a .45GAP and love it more power to you...or less as the case may be. I suppose you think other pointless calibers like 9x21mm IMI are cool too?

Interesting advise, maybe the same could be said for if you are so offended by someone's thoughts on your favorite chambering then don't read the comments. ;)

I for one am happy to see a discussion that involves guns instead of the typical political and mindless banter we typically get around here.

BTW, I can understand an infatuation with a boutique cartridge and more power to you if it is your cup of tea. For many of us the odd ball loadings represent hours of enjoyment. That said to reccomend it to someone looking for a main stream everyday use seems a bit irresponsable IMHO. It would be akin to reccomending the Saibati double in the cabela's case chambered in 9.3x74R that I handles the other day to someone as their all around hunting rifle. Do not get me wrong, it will handle anything on the planet and do so nicely but there are probably mire appropriate set ups...
