The Next President (based on past elections)

Postby DeanC on Mon Jan 28, 2008 8:53 am

Looks like it would be Romney or Guliani.

Americans don't like to elect senators and congressmen to the Presidency. Surprisingly insightful, the American electorate likes to elect people to the supreme executive position who actually have management experience. There has only been one congressmen elected President directly out of the House (Garfield) and there have only been 2 senators elected directly out of the senate: JFK and Harding, all three of whom died in office. Hmm... maybe we should be rooting for Hilary....

So with that formula and today's numbers, the theory says that it will be Romney?!?!

Well, let's see. What executive governmental experience did George Bush Sr. have? Lyndon Johnson? Nixon (other than the post of Vice-President, which really doesn't count)? Kennedy? Truman?

I don't know who will win. I don't think that one's experience either as a senator or as a governor will make a bit of difference.

Unlike past elections, I'm not placing bets on this one. At least, not yet.

Well, apparently the American electorate views the office of Vice-president as worthy enough experience to be electable, especially after you get the automatic promotion to the Presidency when your senior dies in office.

George H.W. Bush (not Sr) - Director, CIA plus Vice President
LBJ - lucky enough to have Kennedy die in office, Vice President gets free pass to the top
Truman - lucky enough to have FDR die in office, (picked as Vice President for FDR's fourth term)
