Another Uptown Robbery

Apparently, the possibility of being shot isn't much of a deterrent...

They'll get caught eventually.

I like your version better. Seems like it would save everyone a lot of time and money.

Heffay, that isn't a very tolerant position.

I think the more Politically Correct response would go somenthing like this:

What if these individuals are disadvantaged youths. Products of a poorly executed school system in a society that teaches them that they have little worth compared to the rich people. The society that has tilted their worlds away from "normal" (whatever that means to the rest of the hetrosexual - caucasian - middle class) and driven them to a life of theivery. Socioeconomically their only option may be to rob people. How can we judge without knowing their stories. For them to die at the hands of police or an angry person with an gun, would be tragic. These people need help and someone to listen to them. They deserve Due Process and Counselling.

And little wonder that they take their rage and frustration out on the society which has abused them!
I do not believe in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.

Not so off topic, but I remain continuously amazed at most people's behavior in public in regard to situational awareness.
Last weekend, I was working at night (tracking down gas odor complaints), in one occasion just off 50th/ France. I wear a reflective vest and hardhat(mostly for identification purposes), and carry a 12" pliers (as a tool). Routinely, I could walk within 20' feet of someone opposing me, because they were focused on their phone/ texting, and/ or were wearing headphones. And it wasn't like they saw, and were ignoring me, because in most cases, when they did finally become aware of my presence, the response was obvious. Numerous times I walked up within 5' of someone from behind, all the while scuffing my feet to make noise in an attempt not to startle them. After a while. I started carrying my flashlight, and made a point of swinging the beam in a way that got their attention.
This kind of crap bugs the hell out of me, because most of these cases were women, and I really did want to incite a panicked, hysterical response, or get maced. Guys aren't much more aware, but tend to be less focused on texting/ wearing headphones.
