I second this. They are doing summer hiring right now. At 16 and 17 they can only work cashier or carry out but it's not a bad place to work and the extra $2.50 an hour on the weekend is a nice incentive. Without a high school diploma starting wage is minimum wage I believe but once they graduate they can get a decent bump. Otherwise it is 10 cent raises every 6 months and there is also profit sharing if you work 1000 hours or more in the year.

Don't know how far into the cities you are, but if you are within easy biking distance of any vegetable farms, they are perpetually looking for gullible youngsters willing to do the unpleasant and tedious jobs (like pick rocks or detassle corn).

Real character builder, and the pay is generally pretty good.
