Pmags are great, but I don't think you'll miss the window if you just get the plain ones, and Lancer mags are arguably better.

Yea the PMAGs ill prolly go with no window.. and possibly one 20 rounder.

A rear sight for until you get a scope, unless you buy a scope right away.

Daniel Defence A1.5 is the best out there right now in terms of fixed rear sights.

A couple of additional thoughts - if this is going to be used for hunting/field work I'd probably stick with a 5-6 pound trigger which I've had no trouble using from a benchrest when the occasion merits shooting holes in paper. The JP springs are a nice, cheap way to lighten up a heavy stock trigger though I did note that the yellow spring kit's hammer spring would not reliably ignite primers in Federal XM193... when it was 20 below (kept the yellow trigger spring and went back to the stock hammer spring to resolve the issue). Not sure if this is a problem in less arctic shooting conditions but if you are looking for an all-season rifle to hunt it's worth thinking about.

IMHO - the Magpul MOE lower build kits from Palmetto are hard to beat, bought separately the Magpul components are significantly more than the $40 premium over the standard stock, grip and trigger guard kit that Palmetto sells for $99. At one point the components in the parts kit were Daniel Defense, not sure how to validate if this is the case today though.

One option to save some bucks now would be to go with a standard trigger group from a standard LPK, get a feel for it (this is your first AR) and then decide what you like/dislike about the stock setup before buying an upgrade. I've found just the JP trigger spring with and otherwise stock trigger group that's gotten a light buff and polish, properly lubed with Magnalube, is fine for my hunting or defensive AR's. You're not going to save much by skipping the stock hammer/trigger and spring components out of a standard LPK and might like having the extra parts around for troubleshooting or repair.

On buffers... I have played with all of the different carbine length buffer options in carbine, midlength and rifle length gas systems and find myself sticking with the H model buffer in both midlength or rifle length gas systems. An H2 is also fine if you're really trying to cut some additional recoil but I just don't see spending $30 for an H3, tungsten powder or other exotic buffer being worth the $18-20 premium. Just because you can put more money into a part doesn't mean you should.

As far as slings, I blind bought one of the cheap Botach sling packages as a stopgap when I picked up my Aimpoint PRO (it came with 2 Pmags and a stupid tactical pen for like $400 shipped... took 2 weeks but so worth it). I am fairly impressed - might be worth a look:

A stock trigger kit given a good once over by some one who's done it before (like the guy from Bills Gunshop) is actually a quite good trigger.

Dude, Ryan at Bills is fully capable of taking a stock trigger and turning it into better than you deserve for about $45 bucks and some JP springs (not sure if they are included or not). For 3 gun I am currently running a combo of his work and another guy's who did some work on my stock DPMS trigger, and it's better than my brother's $250 Giselle.

I think ive decided to not get the Spikes battle trigger. I'll try the stock trigger for now.. if i think its too heavy I'll get those springs.. if Im still not happy after that then I can get some work done on the trigger..

that will save about $60.

I have installed over a dozen of the JP triggers in various ARs for others and have never had problem with light primer strikes although the coldest I have ever used them is about -30F.
Did you use the stock hammer? I always used a modified stock hammer and didnt bother with the JP hammer.
Hunting coyote in the winter and looking like the marshmellow man or PDs dureing the summer wearing a Tshirt I always like the adjustable stock.

Thats EXACTLY what i was thinking when i was deciding on a stock.. I knew that in the freezing cold id have 4 layers on and that fixed stock would be too long.. but in the hot summer when i have a t-shirt, or wear nothing like joe dirt.. the stock would be just fine.

Just to clarify, I was only using the JP spring kit with the stock trigger/hammer - not the full JP trigger assembly.
