Just got an HK 45

Postby Spartan on Sat Aug 13, 2011 8:44 pm

I went shopping friday and bought a used HK45 from Marv and Paul at Frontiersman.
I have wanted one for a coupe years and never could find a nice used one for a decent price.
I have not been able to get to the range to shoot it yet..... but I will soon.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the HK 45?

I'd like to hear about the trigger travel and reset. Looks like a sweet gun.

I have a USP 45 already.... fabulous gun
I shot a friend's HK45 ful size ( same as I just bought) a few times.
The Ergo-friendliness is amazing down to the backstraps and built in finger grooves.
The trigger reset is crisp and swift. The managed recoil of all H and Ks I own or have shot makes them a joy to shoot.
My new one has bright night sights and is pretty much standard out of the box. I have been shooting snap caps for two days ... love that trigger.

I also have a USP 9 SD tactical pistol, a Usp 40, a coupe P7s and the Usp 45 as mentioned. i have a match grade LEM trigger on the usp sd 9.

The HK 45 series guns are superb. I have a HK 45c and converted it to a medium weight LEM trigger. The gun is accurate and reliable. I am contemplating selling my Austrian gen3 g19 and going with a p30 v2 but the g19 works so well that I will prob just stay with it. Congrats and enjoy the new addition.

HK 45 Report.
Smooth tirgger. Just a tiny bit of slack but once drawn it is nice and soft.
Accuracy: At about 25 feet shooting at beer bottles it was about 85% hits. Gallon water jug 5 for 5. 3" orange sticker on a politcial sign 95% in the orange.
At about 50 feet 50% on 5" pie plate and 50% at wine bottles.

Total round count 150 230grn FMJ Winchester Whitebox. No jams, no failures. Managed recoil is great, the feel is good the cycling is smooth.
Outstanding performance.

My family has farm land in SW Minnesota. 75 miles SW of Mankato. Every couple of years we dig a new burning hole. The 7' pile of dirt is a perfect berm in front of a heavily treed grove/ wind break.
We deer hunt "slugs" only.... but pheasant and bunnies are bountiful. I am trying to smoke some coons out of one the out- buildings. Actully could use some abvise on what to use. I am not trying to burn down the Pole shead just need to get the critters out of the rafters...... they nest in the insulation.

I traded a safe queen and $500.00 for it. They wanted $799..... one of the mags was inplastic unused.
I think it was fair trade.
Marv always takes care of me, same as Paul and Herb at frontiersman....

I just picked up the USP 40 at a price so good there was no way to say naw. It does not have a decocker on it, which kind of bugs me. The positives far out weight that one short fall though.
