rifle capacity for deer hunting?

Postby zachkuby87 on Wed Aug 17, 2011 5:36 pm

is there a limit on your rifles capacity for deer hunting here in minnesota? i was talking to my bro about how im going to use an ar for deer this year and he said there is a capacity limit.. he said 7 or something like that i looked on a few sites and found a few states with a limit of 5 rounds but i havent been able to find anything on mn. im not going to buy 100 round drums or anything retarded like that just looking to use the standard 30 round mag. and if there is a limit is there any low cap mags you can buy or a way to modify the 30 rounders to only take 5,7,10 whatever the limit may be? i just wanna make sure a game warden doesnt walk up and decide to take my rifle and give me a fine i wanna do things 100%legal

I don't think you can use a .223 in MN for deer hunting.

I qualified my statement at least. ;-) That info I heard a number of years ago. I take it that it was either never true, or changed recently?

I figured anyone who wanted to hunt with poodle hunting rounds wasn't really worth keeping up with in the first place. :)

I emailed DNR a few years ago, they said no limit on mag capacity. Check their website or contact them.

.223 is legal but is it ethical? A good hunter should be able to make it work, but most people would choose a more powerful, deeper penetrating round.

According to MN law, .25 auto pistol is legal.
Not sure what thinking went into that end of the range other than KISS.

<---- 5 deer in three years, all with a single shot. Ranges up to 150yds. None have run more than 20-30 yds. No complaints here.

Ethical is killing quickly, whatever caliber you use.

Unethical is being a ******* shot, and blowing a big, slow-death hole with some oversize rifle.

seen deer with a .338 win mag go over 8 hours and still not find them.

As with anything, it's placement more than caliber.

Pretty sure everyone has their own rifle capacity for deer hunting. Of course it depends on the size, weight, carry method, strenght of the individual carrying and a few other factors. For myself I am thinking 5. I could probably figure out how to strap 3 on my back and carry another 1 in each hand.
