Yes, it is good to have a gun, it is unfortunate that this man had to use it, but more and more of the less law-abiding among us should take this as a direct and specific warning. There are hundreds of thousands of law-abiding citizens that carry every day. Most should be prepared to use their firearm when absolutely necessary. This was one of those absolutely necessary times. It appears that the wife is completely on-board with what transpired. They seem like a nice couple with a strong marriage.

Hero. No doubt.

He grabbed his gun, firing eight rounds at the intruders - hitting one in the shoulder - and chased them off. Three of the men were caught and arrested.

I'm just happy for them that they survived and can, hopefully put their lives back together. If this had happened in England.............?
our quarrel is not about the value of freedom per se, but stems from our opinion of our fellow men … a man’s admiration of absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him --Alexis de Tocqueville--

“Myself, if someone was holding a gun to my wife’s head, I’d try to talk to them,” 68-year-old Holcomb said. “Nothing is worth someone’s life, just give them everything you’ve got.”

Poor man. Born without testicles or even a working sense of self preservation...

I would suggest that the proper course of action is situational. Sometimes talking is more effective than going in shooting.

Of course, that information is generally only available through hindsight, but hey, it's still an option.

Huge +1 (I've seen you shoot.........)
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

I don't think it's ever a poor tactic to have EVERYONE hit the deck...

/cue the Youtube video of the African peacekeepers handing an AK to the chimpanzee...

If you put a gun to my wife's head, there is no future left for you. The only talking I'd be doing would be to allow me to get a better sight picture on your apricot...

Or your wife. Good thinking.

Way to jump straight to the insults. That'll go further to convince folks of the rightness of your opinion than facts or reality ever will...

What would you recommend doing when someone has a gun held up to your wife's head? Do you shoot the gun out of their hand, or put it in their eye socket so they go down immediately? Do potential muscle spasms figure into your decision making, or is it all subconscious? You know... operating on reflex!

Just use fine print.

Put a gun to my wife's head, and you will die.*

My wife and I discussed just this scenario years ago.
I'm shooting.

I'd probably shoot too, but of course you won't know until it happens to you (which, hopefully, is never ever ever).

Perhaps people are more inclined to shoot nowadays since perpetrators don't always let you be after they get what they want. Think of the college student murdered in uptown - he gave up the wallet (as did the people he was with) and the subhuman shot him in the head anyway. There was that Hispanic couple in north Minneapolis that just finished a shift at McDonalds and were walking home. They were mugged by two subhumans, gave up their possessions, then were shot and killed while they walked away. There's a scumbag subhuman serving a life sentence for shooting a 19-year-old girl who worked at a convenience store. He robbed the place, she willingly gave him everything in the register, and he shot her anyways.
