My first Kydex holster

Postby tt3 on Thu Mar 20, 2008 2:53 pm

This was my nap time project today. Now I just have to figure out how to form a belt clip and I'll be golden. :D

Over all it went much smoother than I was dreading. I'll have to have more fun with this! Huge thanks to jfettig for the advice.

Looks nice!

For belt clips I use a 3/16" 1.5" wide piece of aluminum that I fold it around. I use a lighter to heat it up locally. If you heat up the whole thing you'll need about 6 hands to fold it the way you'll want it

For how little sleep I've been getting I might as well have been. ;)

Very nice job! I can't wait to see it on and report how it works. :)

I formed a couple belt clips. Since its my wife's gun I thought I'd color coordinate

I have to figure out a better way to get the bottom part of the loop tighter. I fold the first V, then second, but I can't seem to get the two folds close enough. Instead of a lighter, I've been using a propane torch. :ugeek:

"Industrial Velcro", another idea shamelessly stolen! It seems to work pretty well and draws nicely. Using the velcro give me a lot of flexibility for cant.

The Kydex I got from here. The black was thinner, blue and tan is a bit thicker, makes for good clips.
I figure one sheet might work for two full size auto holsters. Judging by what little I used for my P3AT, I could probably get four or six out of a sheet. Other than that, the tension screw was from the hardware store.
Toaster oven, propane torch, Velcro and the rest are easily found anywhere.
