Anyone have experience with the Ruger LC9?

Postby autobahn on Sun Nov 06, 2011 3:20 pm

Looking to move into a carry piece and it sounds like the LC9 may be what I am looking for. Small, but not tiny, and in 9mm so I can be sure of its ability to do the job it would need to do if it were needing to be done :)

Impressions, musings, whatever would be great.

Also wondering who has these for a good price and what a good price actually is.

They are a solid gun. The prices are starting to come down now that it has been out for a while. I would expect to pay around $375.

We've sold a few. One customer was getting brass shavings into the striker pin channel.
It was causing light strikes.
He took care of it himself. No other problem.

Great size ( Same as the Kel-Tec PF-9 ).

We're at $359 + tax.

How difficult is it to take out the mag disconnect safety?

You could also buy a Kel-tec PF9 too... I personally like the feel and size of it better than it's cousin the LC9 w/mag safety and higher price point.

I prefer the PF-9 over the LC9 as well. However, LC9 is less brutal on your hands. Price difference is about $100, but I don't see any advantages other than soft edges and the company name that can justify the difference.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

Kel-Tec last Monday released a plus one mag + plus one mag adapter. This changes the ergonomics of the gun. Haven't shot it yet..but now its 8+1 and All three lower fingers (plus equivqlent area of the palm) have a good grip on the grip.

I have 2 of the plus ones. and it feels like a "full sized gun" you could still carry w/ standard or pinky extension mags.

I.THINK THIS IS A GAME CHANGERS FOR THE OF-9 ...amazingly its easier to back pocket carry it w/ the plus one mag .

i've got the plus 1 adapters.... it DOES change the whole weapon.... it's no longer a handful... it's actually pleasant (relatively) to shoot now!

I just had an LC9 in my hands at Fleet Farm. I could not manipulate the slide stop with my thumb? If I pulled back on the slide a little I could. Something wrong with this specific gun or is this the norm. Gota be broken in or something like that?

This would not be a deal breaker for me. I have, and have had many guns where the is the case. Some of them one would have to take a running head start at the slide stop to release it.

I've gotten into the habit of using the slide stop for nothing more than holding the slide opein on the last round. To get the slide to fall on a full magazine I simply slingshot it. (after loading a full magazine, grasp the top of the slide with my weak hand, pull pack to the end of it's travel, then let go). This seems to be a much more efficient and ergonomic way to get the firearm ready to fire.

Well, for me anyways, YMMV.

I've had my hands on a LC9 at Bill's, and feel its a very good fitting firearm. Might even be small enough for pocket carry for most folks. I haven't shot one yet, but would like to.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

This is normal on all of the SR series and the LC9.

I pull the slide back as well but it's a pretty handy thing if you have to do a one handed reload.
