.327 federal mag?

Postby Ryan S on Fri Nov 25, 2011 3:49 pm

I have the oppertunity to pick up a ruger revolver from a friend for a pretty good price. If i remember correctly its an sp101, ive shot it a couple times and its a fun gun to shoot. Just have had much experience with the .327 federal mag caliber. From what i can tell it looks like a longer version of the 32h&r mag, so i guess my question is is the .327 federal mag a viable self defense cartridge or another clever marketing ploy to introduce a solution to a non exisitant problem? Any other conciveable uses for this caliber other target use or self
defense?

No first hand experience but would be tempted at the right price :D
Yes longer then H&R capable of shooting 32 longs,32 H&R, 327mag
No opinion on problems looking for a problem but it gets you six rounds in a revolver that will only chamber 5rds of 38 or 357mag.
327 is reportly between 38 and maybe closer to .357 in power.

Like J.R. said, 6rd vs. 5rd. I figure that's more peace of mind, than anything. If yer business ain't done in 5rd, ya probly shoulda brought a bigger gun, 'er not gone where trouble found ya. :?

It'll shoot .32 Longs ... but I wouldn't expect much, accuracywise, from 'em. If I was to get one, I'd stock up on a few hunderd pieces of brass, and load 'em however ya like.

That said, I personally wouldn't get much use outta full-house loads, so I'd be jest as happy with an H&R. Image

In some tests the. 327 out performs the the .357 from what research i did before i bought my smith and wesson in. 327. You need to keep in mind that a. 22 rimfire will beat a. 357 in SOME catagories! With that being said i love my. 327 and think it is a very real world capable cartridge.

I wouldn't mind getting one. I really want to try one sometime, would also like my wife to try one too. I would have no problem carrying one. From some of the articles I've read it's not a bad round.

I have two, I have a SP101 and a S&W 632 with the 2.125" barrel and the 3-dot Novak type night sights (Very cool)

Both shoot very well The SP101 is VERY accurate with 32 long, especially wadcutters. (the smith probably is too, but I just shoot the Ruger better. I bobbed the hammer and had a trigger job done on mine)
Both concell pretty easily and carry well. .327's are just as harsh as .357s in my opinion, .32 H&R Mags are not bad, and .32 long feels like 22 lr.

I'm still wishing somebody would do a .327 as a bolt or lever action rifle.
