Kahr CM9 and QC issues

Postby EJSG19 on Wed Apr 04, 2012 11:02 pm

Anyone actually fired/carried the CM9? Better yet, has anyone gotten to do a side by side shooting critique of the CM9 against the PM9?

Wondering all the ins and outs there, and whether the extra cash for the PM9 is simply fluff and pretty stuff, or if you are missing anything truly tangible in quality, reliability, or performance by buying the CM9. I know what the gun rags say, but that doesn't go far.

Also, wth ever happened with this? Non issue now? Any change by Kahr? http://www.mnguntalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14321&p=154342&hilit=kahr+magazine#p154342

Lastly, are magazines really $30? Cripes, how can a mag that holds half as much as other mags cost twice as much as other mags? (end rant)

Meanwhile, the pocket gun juggernaut has me headed down the road to buying a CM9, so if nobody can answer the questions above, I'll likely be the sad or happy guinea pig.

A coworker just bought a CM9 as a backup and off-duty carry gun. It's basically the same as my PM9. Tangibly, there is no mechanical difference and I don't know why anyone would buy a PM9 anymore unless they wanted night sights.

From what I was told when I asked the rep at the shooters show at bills the same question. The only differences are that the barrel is slightly different, night sights, smoother edges to the slide, and you get the extended mag with the PM9. I shot the cm9 with the extended mag and now wonder why I even have my pf9.

Up to each individual to make that call - PM9 vs CM9

PM9 = Polygonal rifling
CM9 = Conventional rifling

PM9 = Machined slide release
CM9 = Injection molded slide release

PM9 = Dovetail front sight
CM9 = Pinned front sight

PM9 = All black option
CM9 = No all black option (factory)

PM9 = Night sights option
CM9 = No night sights option (factory)

PM9 = 2 magazines
CM9 = 1 magazine

PM9 = "Fancy engraving" (I forget the terminology, sorry I'm in IT not machining)
CM9 = "Cheap engraving" (I forget the terminology, sorry I'm in IT not machining)

I carry a cm9 daily. I'm very happy with it. I've seen a couple pm9s and mk9s come up for sale (even on this forum) for about the same price as a new cm9. I think I saw a kahr ad that said it now comes with an extra mag, but I could be mistaken. Great little gun. I wouldn't agonize over pm9 vs cm9. Either way you'll be happy.

Extra magazine was a limited time promotion that has ended... unless they're running it again.

What Thunder71 said.
If you don't care about the match grade polygonally rifled barrel,
go with the CM9 and buy another mag.
$33.95 - Just be glad it's not a Sig mag. :D

I think the front sight is the bigger issue for me over the barrel, especially since it's only 3" long. CM9 wasn't around when I got my PM9, not sure what route I'd take today...

Actually I do...

I'd buy the CM9, then constantly wonder if I should have bought the PM9...
Sell the CM9 at a loss.
Buy the PM9.

You'd think I'd learn by now to get what you want the first time! :?

Glad to hear most of that guys, thanks.

I'm not overly concerned about the features that get docked on the CM9. Night sights are doable, extra mags or obtainable, and for a gun that rides concealed 100% of the time, I don't really give an Eff if it isn't quite as pretty as $200 might make it.

Its about the closest manual of arms as it gets to a "pocket" Glock, and a G26 just plain isn't as small as it needs to be for pocket carry.

Anyone know where to find Kahr mags that still have metal followers? Or are they all plastic now?

Knowing that you are a Glock guy, I was looking for the VOR why the 26 wouldn't work for you.....and you as always came up with a good reason.

Anyone of the Kahr products that I have shot have always gone bang when the trigger was pulled.
