Star Model B 9mm question

Postby sinSStr on Thu May 31, 2012 9:49 pm

Unsure on the age of this thing, but my dad's had it sitting in a safe for the last 20 years or more. I took it apart, cleaned it real well, oiled it up and took it to the range. Nothing wrong with the first 2 mags through it, but it had a feed problem (jammed) once on my buddy and stove-piped once on that same mag. Four or five more mags went through it without a hitch. On the last mag (same guy that had the first couple issues), the slide lock pin slid out halfway. After clearing it, reset the pin, shot one more round and the pin slid out halfway again. The gun is VERY similar to a 1911 (Samuel L. Jackson carries one in Pulp Fiction and most people think it's a 1911) so any knowledge with 1911's doing this should be helpful in my case. Any thoughts?

You may have to center punch the opposite end of the pin to slightly peen it over for a tighter fit. Or have a smith do it for you.

So ya think it's just a bit worn out? Hmm...

Is there a spring loaded pin in the back of the slide lock that engages a detent? I have a Star PD and I believe they are quite similar.

There's a Spanish fellow on the gunboards.com site that bought up all of Star's parts when they closed. I got a spare firing pin, extractor, magazine and grips from him after I got mine. Look around at the Spanish pistol section and you'll find him, I think his name is Jorge. The members will send you right to him, or you can scan for a post with something about parts in the title, and he'll be mentioned.

I've got two, a full size blued BM and a stainless BS, both are fun to shoot, I just get hammer bite.
