My position is that the majority of Obama voters / supporters (99%?) are like the woman interviewed after the 2008 DNC convention in Denver... you remember her?
"I'm so excited because if Obama wins I won't have to worry about my mortgage or my car or gas"
If they aren't already getting their mortgage and gas, etc. paid for by the government that's what they voted to get.
I'm not sure where to go with this. On the one hand, it makes me happy because as long as the Republican party continues to view the Democrats like this they're going to continue to lose elections. BADLY.
On the other hand it is profoundly disappointing to think that a nation forged from citizens sacrificing their land, livelihoods and their very lives has fallen to the point where a substantial part of the populace views the american ideal as a party that has lower taxes as it's single unifying principle, and views any effort to raise enough revenue to actually pay the country's bills as 'armed robbery'.
I voted for Obama with the express hope that he would both raise my taxes and balance the budget. I have to accept the fact that our current fiscal situation requires reductions in so-called entitlement programs. I find the notion that we can put cuts social security, medicare and medicaid on the table, but raising tax rates on folks who bring home more than $250,000 per year is not even up for discussion is disgusting.
Seriously. We have men and women serving 3 and 4 years in Iraq and Afghanistan and you can't be asked to pay 3% more in your income taxes because that's Socialism?!!!
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
