What's your favorite primer flip tray?

Postby Dutch on Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:50 pm

Been using the plastic RCBS tray forever and there's always about 5 that never flip, no matter what...
Is that as good as it gets or are there better ones?

I have the cheep hornady flipper and it has always worked fine....my cousin has the metal dillon one. Works all the time too......just can't justify spending 20 bucks on the dillon one when the hornady I bought for 4 bucks is perfect too

I use the RCBS also without any problems. Ensure that you use a circular motion instead of linear. Sometimes primers won't catch an edge if the are sliding parallel to the groves.

Thanks guys. I think I've tried to shake and shuffle every possible way, both "in the air" and on a flat surface.
I guess the easiest way is to pick those couple up before flipping the rest but sometimes I get a little obsessed and I feel like they should all flip and I'm not giving in until that happens. Then, when I'm down to 1 and make that single one finally flip, there's others that flip back.

I use Berry's Bullets 6" dia Flippin Trays (not sure what brand, could be Frankfort Arsenal).

Using big diameter makes it easier to dump primers without missing the tray.

I have extras if someone wants to come get one or two.

In past I've used RCBS and Lee extensively for the hand primer systems.

I've never had any problem with the RCBS. Guess there's a certain "back and forth" motion with the hand that a guy just has to get used to. Practice makes perfect.
I got nothin'

Been using a Lee Autoprime since they first came out about 30 years ago. Yes, it does take a certain swirling motion to get all 100 to flip and stay that way, but it's only about 15 seconds worth of work once you know what you're doing, and you don't have to screw with any %$^&*(^%$#%&*() EFFEN primer tubes!! GDMFSOB primer tubes!!!

Since the '70s, I've been using one made by Pacific. No idea if it is still made. However, it works great. Flips them 100% of the time.

Me too, who doesn't love a NATO spec primer flip tray? Also, it's big enough to actually accept a full tray of primers. I was absolutely disgusted when I opened my RCBS hand primer to see that it had a round tray that was just small enough not to fit the winchester and federal primer packs. So annoying! Especially since I've seen pictures online of an RCBS tool with a square tray that looks like a perfect fit.

Well, it appears I learned something today: The above advice makes a big difference!
:thankyou:
