Response from Klobuchar

Postby Erik_Pakieser on Wed Jan 23, 2013 7:38 pm

Probably not a surprise to anyone.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on guns. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important and timely issue.

As the former chief prosecutor of Minnesota's largest county, I worked to enforce the gun laws already on the books and have long supported efforts to promote gun safety, including background checks. I also believe the Second Amendment gives American citizens the right to own guns for collection, protection, and sport. This right is an important part of our shared history and heritage, and should be protected.

As a member of the Judiciary Committee, I look forward to hearings on the President's recommendations and proposed public safety solutions that include school safety, addressing mental illness, limits on high-capacity magazines and assault weapons, and other efforts to combat violence.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. One of the most important parts of my job is listening to what the people of Minnesota have to say to me. I am here in our nation's capital to do the public's business and to serve the people of our state. I hope you will contact me again about matters of concern to you.

Sincerely,

Amy Klobuchar

Response from Klobuchar

I'm surprised she responded, but not by the response. For all she said she could have saved all those electrons she wasted.

They all go in a bucket and when she okays the response her staffer wrote up they all get responded to at the same time cut-n-paste style. Obviously it took him/her a while to write something that they hoped would not offend the most amount of people without being an outright lie...or not responding at all.

Shocking, I got the same personalized letter!

Just for kicks, I emailed back and thanked them for taking the time to send me out the most vague form letter they could.

Response from Klobuchar

Postby Metal Bird on Thu Jan 24, 2013 12:52 am

Me too, and mom ... Got the exact same canned response from her. She never read it and never will. Just some staffer assigning a generic response based on the subject.
At least I know my local Rep read it. I received a personal response from him within hours of sending it. I know it was personal because he addressed a few points I made directly and his signature said "sent from my iPad". I responded right away as well as he to me again.
Nice to know that at least one elected official I contacted cared enough to read and respond.

As of last night neither of our Senators has told their staff how they will vote ... probably to give the illusion of a long, thoughtful decision process. The vote should be today if I read Sen. Reid's statement correct from Tuesday the 21st.

We need to keep up the pressure and keep calling!

Still no response for me.

Can't say I'm surprised though - that was a really round-a-bout long way of trying to give lip service to every single side of the gun issue at once.

Which is better than Ellison. I heard back from his copy/paste and he clearly didn't bother to do that. His response was "I'm glad you wrote me, and I happily announce to you that I will push for a ban as I represent your wishes!" Um... did your lowly staffer even read the message?

Got Klobuchar's response, but at least it was a response. Nothing from Walz (my rep) or Franken. I have another letter ready to go, so they'll get another opportunity to personalize their response... ;)

Keep sending them in -- we need to make sure the "pro" column has more hashmarks than the "anti" column!
