Eventually, there will be a deciding point of whether or not the ban passes. If it passes, then the "after" exists, just with restricted rights. The ammunition market will eventually level out - no guns to use the ammunition are selling, and while there are quite a few out in circulation that are "grandfathered" eventually the demand will die down as people aren't buying up the rifles. Credit cards will catch up with the hoarders, grinding them to a halt. Supply will catch up eventually.
If it doesn't pass, then the hoarders run out of credit and the rest of us let things normalize out because, after all, there's no rush. We can still legally buy what we want when we want.
Seems to me that either way, those crazy hoarders will end up stopped at some point, and that will let the rest of us get what we want.

I am not an economist so I do not pretend to understand market forces, but my thoughts are that this thing is going to take a long time to normalize, and I mean a long time, like several years and the new normal will not be the pre-Sandyhook normal. Oh, do not get me wrong, at some piont the bubble will burst but it will not come back down to what we are used to. People who paid $1500 for a base model sportical are not going to all of a sudden sell it for $500. Not to mention that those who bought ARs out of fear may find that they like them. I think our market has been permemantly altered.

I don't know - it would appear that the demand for $1500 sporticals (and $50 PMAGs) is dying out. I've seen several listed (and relisted and relisted and relisted) on Armslist now for a few weeks. The price keeps dropping with each relist. There are still some of the optimistic guys looking to get $2500 for theirs though...(or $1200 for their mini 14)
You're correct that we probably won't see prices dip back down to the $500 level again...but I think its normalizing out. Of course now that Feinstein has finally introduced her bill, there will be another frenzy...
It'll be interesting to see what the MWCA line to get in looks like this Saturday in Saint Paul.
