GOCRA: Fights for your rights at the Capitol next Tue-Thr

Postby bstrawse on Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:06 pm

We need you to come to the capitol at least one of three days next week. It's important.

Today, members of the Minnesota House introduced a stunning array of bills to strip you of your firearm rights, your due process rights and other freedoms. We'll be detailing these bills on our web site and on Facebook in the next day.

Next week, the Minnesota House will hold three days of hearings on these bills. All the politicians, the legislators, the governor and the media will be watching.

Gun owners need to be at the hearings in overwhelming numbers.

(Yes, this will involve taking time off of work for many, and we wouldn't ask if it were not so important. It is that important.)

Can you attend one or more of the hearings?

The hearings are at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; you'll need to be there by 8:30. Gun rights activists will meet in room 400S of the State Office Building.

We'll have buttons and t-shirts to help identify you as one of the good guys and gals (please bring $1 for buttons or $10 for t-shirts to offset our costs).

There are also two evening hearings, on Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. Plan to be there by 4:30 p.m. to get a seat.

If you can come to one or more of the five hearings, please let us know by sending an email to volunteer@gocra.org. If you are flexible about which day or days, tell us that, too, so we can be sure to fill the seats for all five sessions.

If you, or someone you know, can testify against gun control, please tell us that, too, and we can help get you to the right people to get on the list.

Whether you can come or not, please call your senator and representative, urge them to reject any gun control measures. Then, call each member of the committee and tell them the same thing:

What about that rally?
Yes, there's a rally loosely organized for Friday.

We already demonstrated, on January 19, that we can turn out, literally, 100 times as many supporters as the gun banners. As fun as it is to gather and protest, now it's time to get down to work. We exert real power when we get in front of legislators -- attending the hearings, and then seeing your senator and representative afterwards, in person.

The Bad Bills
We'll have some analysis soon, but you don't need to be a lawyer to see the problems for the law-abiding gun owner.

I have a Respectful question. I 'get' the idea of deferring any splinter issues and presenting a coherent united front.

But if I attend hearings or rallies I may want to bring a few signs.

What's the 'party line' on this.

Personally losing state pre-emption would be terrible. AWB ban Terrible. Mag limit, Terrible. Registration even worse.

A) But I have a bone to pick with Mayor RT Ryback...he's CLEARLY using this issue as a tool to make a name for himself and I want to ridicule him (in a sign for the rally) I'd have it printed / laminated at Kinkos.Wording is to-be-determined.

B) Would this be...within the goals of the group.

A poster with (or without) a photo of Obama and the word's

WE ARE
AMERICANS
[obama photo here]
GET OVER IT.

C) are there posters already made up (that what the Anti's do)

D) What are they doing in other cities

E) Where's Oleg Volk on this....His posters set the standard on 2A eloquence. His dad is an Edina council member IIRC. He allows free use of his material if it is PRO 2A and requests a credit or a link back to one of his sites. I will google for his current work and report back.

F) so what's the word on 'Keeping it Simple' I want to scratch the RT Ryback itch and the Obama itch and I think THEY are valid subjects of discussion and or ridicule.

Well this is a surprise, I was just about to link to http://olegvolk.net/blog/

I am a 'Friend of Joel' ..his presence would surely make the events of the coming week more fun.

The series you did of this black family is one of my favorites.

Somewhere I picked up the idea that you allowed your RKBA work to be used for pro- RKBA events and preferred buy didn't require a credit and or link back to one of your sites.

We had a good turn out on 1/19. It did, however, look like a lot of guys in parkas and ski hats. Wouldn't the picture be improved if the 50plus / 250 plus demonstrators all had a 2x3 poster with clear simple images and to-the-point text?

I did catch up a bit on your blog but mainly I've been cruising Glock Talk for the latest news.

Here's what I think would be a PERFECT 2x3 foot sign for the Capitol steps:

There's a dozen others. Question: Would you give license to use these next week at the MN Capitol ?
My background assumption is that you allowed use for 2A purposes without royalty.

Also BTW...if this ball gets rolling. Kinkos can do the small poster printing...but there are a lot of tradesmen here...anyone work in a printshop????

This could make a nice banner held by 2 people.
Simple message / effective visuals... a magnet for the cameras.

Parking at the Capitol. I've been getting a lot of questions on this via PM.

Here's from their website:

Where do I park when I visit the Capitol?
Public metered parking is available at Lot Q, north of the Capitol at Cedar Street and Sherburne Avenue; Lot AA, across from the State Office Building at Aurora Avenue and Rice Street; and the orange level of the Centennial Building Ramp at Cedar Street and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. All-day parking is available in Lot Q and the Centennial ramp. Public street metered parking is available along John Ireland Boulevard and Fuller Avenue, which are near the Transportation Building. St. Paul meter patrols will issue tickets for expired parking. The Administration Department provides maps and information on the cost of parking. Also, see the parking locations on this map.

Senate Media Services has a video about parking at the Capitol.

Outdoor disability parking is available in Lot N, which is on the northwest side of the Capitol, and in Lot F. Indoor disability parking is available on the blue level of the Centennial Office Building Ramp; and on the entry level of the Administration Building Ramp (two stalls).

Since parking is limited during legislative sessions, busing may be easier. Freeway express bus service is available. Call the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC), (612) 827-7733, for your specific route information.

Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

Half the guys here at work are ready to leave right now, so I should be good for at least a car load!

Pick the images you want, email me for high-res files. Ideally, not at the last moment.

How important is the 8:30 arrival time? With the other morning duties, from Rochester I'd probably couldn't make it until 9:30...
