I don't plan to carry openly, I want it to be as discreet as possible. My 1911 may end up just being my home protection firearm. I do have a Beretta Nano as well, even though it's my spouses, she still hasn't shot it or the G17 or 1911, so so she may turn her nose up to the Nano completely, that would leave me with a very small conceal carry firearm.
All of this is up in the air at this point, right now. At the moment, I want to holster my 1911 while I am at home. If I can save a few bucks and use the same holster for carry outside of the home as inside, then that's just icing on the cake. Evad's point of confusing the location of the firearm with different holsters makes sense. This is why I was thinking a shoulder holster. I can see myself wearing a vest and not having it as a burden year round, it would suit my needs in the home. I'll have to try some out and see what I think. I "fit" into my computer chair fairly snug, so the belt holsters concern me. I'll tuck the 1911 in my pocket or belt and see how that goes tomorrow, but I suspect there will be some adjustments that need to be made to sit down. This may just be normal carry positioning that I haven't thought about yet.
I just have this thought that a gun sitting in my safe, 30ft from me, locked away, is not serving the purpose that it was made for. Seems if I can have it on my body makes the most sense.
Thanks everyone for your responses and hope to hear others opinions!
